Our Prayer For You

A Prayer for Our Country

Brother Cleve Rattray offers A Prayer for Our Country on 19 June 2020.

My Brothers, Sisters and Friends,

I am hoping that you are well. It is Fathers’ Day weekend and fathers are called to be good stewards of their families, use their gifts to empower them and see them through the eyes of Christ. Today’s prayer focus is on our country. Our prayer is led by Brother Cleve Rattray, who is the father of three young adult sons. He is highly involved in the ministries of social media, technical support, and ushering.

We continue to suggest that if you or anyone you know is in need of prayer, or any other form of support, please let us know. A request for prayer can be made on the church’s website.

Let us pray:

Dear Lord, thank you for today. Lord thank You for giving us strength, and breath. Lord, we thank you for all that you have done to bless and keep us. We thank you Lord, for the life you have given to us. Thank you Lord, for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, and of Your salvation. Thank You, oh Lord, for all that you have helped us through.

Lord, we pray that you will prepare us, as we come before You placing our hearts, and our cares into Your mighty hands. Help us, oh God, to bow before You, honour and worship Your name. Lord, we ask that You will cleanse our hearts from all unrighteousness. Give each of us a clean heart, and a clean mind.

Father, as we bow before You, we ask for Your guidance and direction in the challenges ahead. Father God, we pray that You will open our hearts unto You; and calm our hearts, and minds. Let us bow, praise and worship Your name. May our praise and worship be done in Spirit and in truth.

Our Lord and our God, we ask for Your blessings and protection upon those amongst us.

We thank You for protecting most of us from the Covid-19 disease, a virus that has claimed so many lives across the world. We thank You oh God that our little country has gone through the test so far and even though we have lost some in the battle, You, our Father, have kept the majority of us. Lord, we give you thanks.

Lord, we know that it is only by your hands that we have managed during this time, for in so many places, in the world, it is the complete opposite. We know that it is not because Jamaica is an especially godly place; so we thank You for Your compassion and love. We pray that Your warnings will be kept in all of our hearts to alert us of Your power and grace.

Lord, those who work in the front-lines of our country, we ask that your compassion and your love will continue to rest upon them, and that Your Holy Spirit will comfort them. For those who are separated from their families, Lord, look after their families, and give them a sense of Your peace, and comfort,. Oh God, grant them an assurance that they are in good hands, in Your hands.

We lift up especially those connected with our church:

  • Medical Doctors: Asana Anderson Wilks and Rohan Wilks, Kahlete Falloon, Tina Kong, Vernon Jones, Leighton Logan;
  • Dentists: doing emergency cases; Jhenell Black, Dana Jones, Eleanor Reynolds;
  • Pharmacists: Sandra Bucknor-Jones, Viveen Watson;
  • Other doctors and nurses from GMC; or in connection with members and adherents of GMC who are working on the front-line (for example Dr. Richard Reynolds) and their families.

Lord, we pray for all business leaders throughout our country. Lord,

You have placed them in various spheres of life. You Lord, have placed them there for such a time as this. Lord, we ask that You pour Your goodness and kindness upon them, and provide guidance and direction in the way they do business. Lord, we pray that Your compassion will be in their hearts. We pray that they will treat their employees with the love of Christ. We pray that they will care for and have mercy upon employees who are broken, hurting and in need of support. Father, we pray that you will bless, encourage and strengthen them. Lord, keep them safe.

Lord remember especially: Ewan and Maxine Oliver; Lanna and Desmond Bennett; Warrick Bogle, Carol and Leroy Blake, Marcia Leair, Robert and Beveline Smith, Paulette Dixon, Kemorine and Karl Henry, Ava Comrie, Catherine Barkley and husband, Cornel Richards and family, Everton Lewis, Pauline and Mark Garvey, Brother Astley Hall, Maxine and Benedict Ranger, Melva Knight, Nicole Fender, Sharon Baldie, Karl Jones and others

Father, you know those of this world who are suffering because of various losses during this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lord, the loss of ill-gotten gains of some persons has caused them to be in need. Lord, now they seek to prey upon others, to rob and destroy.

Father God, let Your Holy Spirit stand with Your children against them oh God, and convict them of their wrongful ways. Lord I pray that You will cause them to come to know You, come to understand that You are a God of love and justice, and You can provide all things.

Lord, You are a God of all goodness and kindness. You are a God of love and compassion, and even though there are those who have been wicked and cruel, You are still a loving and forgiving God. You will accept them if they allow You to be their Saviour and Lord. Father I ask that Your Holy Spirit will draw them unto You.

Father, we pray for the leaders of our country; church, political and government leaders. Father God, we pray for those You have allowed into positions of leadership, that they will allow You to stand with them, guide and direct their path. Lord, help them to understand within their hearts that they are not in positions for themselves but to serve You, and Your creation.

Lord, we present to you our leaders of every area of life, church, families, businesses, government, and by extension, the world. We lift up especially our local leaders Honourable Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness, Minister of Health Christopher Tufton, Minister of Finance Nigel Clarke, health workers and support staff, Minister of National Security Horace Chang, Minister with the responsibility for Education, Karl Samuda, Leader of the Opposition Peter Philips, and their families; Jamaica Defence Force and Jamaica Constabulary Force personnel and Security Guards, all other leaders of government and their support staff.

Lord, I pray that You will place within their hearts a conviction to reach out to You for Your guidance and leading. Lord, take their pride, lack of humility and stubbornness. Help them to deal with all fears and concerns that they may face. Lord. I pray that those who come up against You will realize that You are the Rock of Salvation, and You are unmovable. You do not bargain nor do You trade.

Lord, we lift up to You students who are preparing for exams, teachers and guidance counselors. We ask that you will keep them safe and provide for them. Grant them the wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and the right attitude that they will need at this time.

Father, remember our church leaders, those who serve You, and feed Your sheep. We pray that, as it relates to Grace, You will give us wisdom in our search for a shepherd. In our search, Lord, help us to never lose sight that You are the One True Shepherd. Lord, for months you have provided leadership and guidance, fed and kept us. Father, I pray that our hearts will bow at your feet and give you all the glory and worship for all that You have done, for all that you have blessed Your children with, oh God, during these times.

Lord, we pray for the families of our country. Bless and protect our families, oh God. I pray that we may place You at the centre of our families. As we gradually come out of this isolation period and start to rebuild our contacts physically, let us take You out into the world with us. Help us to show the world that You are the true and living God; that you brought us to this point; and that we can again stand and worship You, publicly and privately calling upon Your name.

Lord, we ask that You will protect families from the evil that seeks to destroy, that seeks to sway them in the wrong direction, to bring them down into a world of hatred and destruction. Father, shine a light upon them Lord, upon their hearts that they will see the beauty of accepting You, serving You, relying on You, and doing Your will.

Lord, we pray for those in the body of Christ and ask that You provide for us out of the kindness and goodness of Your heart, love and compassion for all Your children. Help us to be humble before You and obey You. Lord, we pray that you will watch over us, guide and lead us in the way that we should go.

Father, we know at times it is hard to understand Your will, because we only see a day or a time, but God you see eternity, and you know all that is before us. Father, I pray that Your presence will be in the heart of each of us and that we will hear You. Help us to understand that our wisdom is foolishness compared to Yours. Lord, let us be assured that even though we may face times of despair, and times of hardship, we go through these with You by our side. Lord, let us hold on to the fact that at the end of our journey, there will be a great and wonderful reward in Your presence.

You are God and You know everything, You see the future and You know what we need. Lord, You have placed all the things at our disposal for Your purpose. You have sent to us Your Word, guidance, directions, and signposts. Lord, You have provided everything to lead us into Your will. I pray Father, that as we go forward we understand Your will more and more each day; that we understand Your calling, and Your design for our lives.

Lord, I pray that we will learn to submit everything to You by letting go of our fears and our concerns, and our worldly desires. I pray that we will thank You for all the things we have been given, and dedicate them to serving You.

Father, I pray that you will endow Your children with the strength to call Your name in all the places that we go, and that You will always be present. Father, we ask that You bless and protect Your children. Lord, strengthen each and every one to use the opportunities You give, and to learn from the experiences that you have brought us through.

Lord, there are times when we may turn away in error, or we may slip and fall but You are always stretching to us a helping hand. You help us to stand up and brush us off. To wash us clean again, and to turn our hearts back to You. We recognize the love that is in You, the compassion that is in You, the goodness in You, Your wonderful beauty, and Your greatness. We pray, Lord, that we will learn to trust You, lean upon You, and seek You in all that we do.

Lord, we thank you Lord for today. We thank You for the blessings of Your presence and for the strength You place within us. Oh Lord, we thank You for the light of Your salvation and for the blessings of Your protection. We thank you oh God, that You are a God of limitless love and limitless compassion. We thank you oh Lord, for showing us that You are the one true God. Lord, in You there is everything that we need. Our cares and our concerns can be placed at Your feet, You will never fail us. We thank you, Lord.

In your holy name we pray.
Amen.
