Streams of Prayer Bulletin

Streams of Prayer Bulletin for August 24

The Streams of Prayer Bulletin for August 24, 2020 is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. This is available through Wycliffe Caribbean.

God’s mission belongs to Him and He provides for His mission. Funding is one of the Participation streams to which Alliance Organisations can commit. Bible translation movements cannot continue efficiently or effectively without needed finances and the wise and accountable stewardship of those funds.

Standing with ministry partners: Kenya

Some local partners of Bible Translation and Literacy (BTL) Kenya are business people and school owners. For some, their incomes have been adversely impacted by COVID-19 challenges and the resulting lockdown regulations. The staff members of BTL give thanks that they are also receiving queries from individual Christians who seek to be involved in supporting Bible translation. Pray that the Lord will meet the needs of partners during these challenging times.

God’s faithful provision: Philippines, Israel

Thank you for praying for the Wycliffe Philippines scholars studying Hebrew in Israel. This programme is in partnership with 4.2.20 Foundation. Praise God for his faithful provision for the scholars who are studying to become Bible translators. Now that lockdown restrictions are lifted one of the scholars is returning soon to the Philippines. Ask God to bless her with a meaningful time in her home country as she waits on the Lord for her next steps. Pray for strength, patience and wisdom for the scholars who will stay in Israel.

Revitalising income generation: Togo

The Wycliffe Togo Guest House has had no visitors during the pandemic. The income from the Guest House subsidises salaries of other staff. Pray for a miracle, that many clients would come for a long stay. Ask God to encourage the Guest House team and help them to work effectively despite these challenges.

Seeking ways to engage with the government: Papua New Guinea

The Government of Papua New Guinea values the importance of languages in the country. There are more than 800 languages in a country of eight million people. As part of their strategic planning, the Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association Board of Directors resolved to research possible ways to mutually engage with the government in language projects.

So pray for the Lord to give wisdom to the Board as they lead in this undertaking. Also pray that good relationships will develop out of this initiative to enhance and encourage language development through Bible translation.

Needing creative solutions: Global

As the coronavirus continues to affect different parts of the world, many people who faithfully support Bible translation have been laid off from their jobs or have experienced income reductions. Consequently, many have temporarily reduced or stopped their donations altogether. Ask God to meet them in special ways to provide for their needs. Ask God to give them peace as they walk through financial challenges. Pray for God’s creative solutions for both the givers and the receivers. Praise God in advance for making a way for them to contribute as before to the Bible translation movement.

Provision for hard to reach places: Chad

Pray that the staff and leaders of ATALTRAB will experience the guidance of the Spirit of God as they review the strategic plan for 2020-2022. They would like to develop and implement strategies using Oral Bible storytelling to help bring the good news of Jesus Christ to people groups which are hard to reach. So ask God to strengthen followers of Christ who serve in places where people are opposed to the gospel. Also pray that God provides all the required resources to conduct these programmes. In addition, pray for peace in areas of insecurity in Chad.

Support for training centre: Bangladesh

Connections Bangladesh participates in the Bible translation movement by engaging churches through Scripture engagement and leadership and discipleship training courses. Praise God for the surprise sponsorship for the training centre from one supporter. This financial support will help fund the centre for training church leaders in the country. Therefore, pray for wisdom and guidance as the Connections team faithfully stewards these resources.
