Streams of Prayer for 10 December 2024

The Streams of Prayer for 10 December 2024, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.

December 8, 2024 – December 14, 2024

Bible Translation Programmes

The current theme for Streams of Prayer is Bible Translation Programmesone of the Alliance participation streams.

Wycliffe Global Alliance serves Bible translation movements because we long for language communities to encounter God through his Word. As written in the Alliance Foundational Statements, one of our core values is “trusting God to transform lives through His Word translated into the languages and cultures of the world’s peoples”.

We will pray for Bible translation efforts around the world. We will also celebrate lives changed through Scripture and pray that many more communities will be powerfully impacted by encountering God through the Bible translated into a language they can understand.

Äiwoo translation project progress: Solomon Islands

Praise God for Solomon Palusi, the project manager appointed by the Äiwoo translation steering committee on 30 August. Ask God to give him wisdom as he begins to guide and monitor the work of the translation team. Praise God for safe travels for translators Edmond and Luke and advisor John Rentz of Wycliffe New Zealand from Reefs to Honiara on 19 September to do the consultant check of James. Praise the Lord for Edmond and Luke participating in the two-week “Discover your language” workshop while in Honiara. Pray that their eyes will be opened to see how the elements of their language fit together in a design ordained by their creator and that this will help them in their translation work.

Serving across the border: South Africa

Driven by their desire to glorify God, Wycliffe South Africa (WSA) assists the church in helping Bibleless people. Thank God that like other Alliance organisations, WSA wants to see God’s Word transforming lives in every language community to spread the knowledge of God’s glory. Praise God for involvement beyond the borders of their own country. WSA staff assist with translation in the Phimbi language in the Tete Province of Mozambique. In April, Phimbe speakers in Mozambique had their first translation training workshop, followed by two other workshops, all of which went well. Pray that God’s Word will impact the translators’ lives as well as the entire community. Pray for good health for all translators and their families. Ask God to provide for the whole programme.

Staying active despite the difficulties: Guinea Bissau
Streams of Prayer 10 December 2024

The Instituto de Tradução e Alfabetização (ITA) is involved in Bible translation in Guinea Bissau. Thank God for the presence of this organisation in the country to partner with language communities in translation. Praise God for committed translation team members in the various programmes. However, there are several who have health issues. Ask the Lord to restore those who are ill. Pray for God’s provision for new programmes that need to begin, and for more partners in both new and ongoing programmes. Thank God for the Scriptures already available and pray that people in those communities will be transformed by encounters with God through his Word. Praise the Lord for all he will do in Guinea Bissau.

Sarangani Manobo Old Testament translation: Philippines

Praise God for the successful consultation meeting of the Sarangani Manobo pastors and leaders held at Davao Occidental. The leaders expressed their desire to have the Sarangani Manobo Old Testament translated. Mother-tongue translators and a project facilitator are needed to serve in this project. Pray for God to provide people to be involved in these roles. Ask the Lord for provision of funding for the Old Testament project as well as revision of the New Testament.

Managed by YMP3, the Hiren cluster project covers four languages that are spoken in Irian Jaya (Raja Ampat), Indonesia. The project aims to translate the Gospel of Luke, the JESUS Film and some Christian songs.  Praise the Lord that the local church organised the first workshop on 22-28 February. YMP3 is waiting for confirmation from this church on whether they will organise the second. Pray for a decision from the church soon. Pray that the Hiren cluster project will carry on with the needed activities. Pray for the preparation of the second workshop, especially for the venue. Pray also for all facilitators, team members and consultants to attend with enthusiasm.

Sharing the vision for Bible translation: Central African Republic

This year, the Association Centrafricaine pour la Traduction de la Bible et l’Alphabétisation (ACATBA) has participated in events to share the vision for Bible translation in the Central African Republic. Adelphe, one of the directors, led two debates during a youth conference. His presentation on the importance of Scriptures in mother tongues for the transformation of a society created awareness and enthusiasm among participants. The coordinator of the Sarah Movement presented at a women’s conference of the Association des Églises Baptistes en Centrafrique in Ouango. Thank God for these events that helped to spread ACATBA’s passion for transforming lives through Bible translation. Pray that those who heard these presentations will be led by God to become involved through prayer, financial gifts or more direct participation.

Exploring Bible translation possibilities: Vanuatu, Australia

People in 43 language communities in Vanuatu still have no access to the Scriptures. Pray for workers to take up the challenge to serve alongside translation teams for these languages. Thank the Lord for Jared and Bethany Killey of Wycliffe Australia, who arrived in Vanuatu early this year. Pray with them as they seek to discern in which community to serve to assist with Bible translation and literacy. Pray as they meet with leaders of various communities to grow relationships and discuss the possibility of Bible translation. Pray for their good health and protection.
