The Streams of Prayer for 20 September 2022, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.
Our current theme for Streams of Prayer is Leadership. We give thanks for leaders in Alliance organizations. The Wycliffe Global Alliance serves Bible translation movements in many ways. One way is by nurturing current and future leaders for Bible translation movements. Opportunities are available to them to learn and grow through intergenerational forums, coaching, formal and informal mentoring, and encouragement in leading as servants and shepherds. They need our support and prayers to discern how God is leading the organizations in times of great change.
Each Alliance organization needs godly men and women to lead and discern how to engage with God in his mission. Thank God for those who courageously led in the past year. A number of new leaders took on responsibilities as others completed their leadership terms or transitioned to different roles. Many Alliance organizations have new directors, board members and/or leadership team members.
Prayer and Communications gathering: Philippines, Global
Praise God that members of the Wycliffe Global Alliance’s prayer and communications teams will be able to gather for the first time in nearly three years between 19 and 23 September in Manila, Philippines. Pray for safety and ease in travel and that God will keep each of them healthy. The teams will evaluate changes to the way they work due to the pandemic. Ask God to grant them wisdom and discernment regarding where to focus their energies. Pray that each person will return to their assignments with fresh energy and vision.
Health and wellbeing for director and his team: New Zealand
Praise the Lord for healing Rob Lovatt, director of Wycliffe New Zealand, who had suffered from serious stomach and GI issues for several months. Rob endured multiple rounds of antibiotics, scans, and tests for these issues. Praise God that the scans and tests yielded clear results, and Rob’s health has improved with changes in diet and medication. Please pray for continued health and well-being for Rob and his team of directors. Praise the Lord for the time of retreat enjoyed by the directors and their spouses in February. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together to pray, be refreshed, and plan for the year.
Interim Leadership: France
Since 2019 the small operational team and executive board of Wycliffe France have been functioning without a director. In 2021, Stewart Johnson, who had been serving as an advisor, stepped into the role of interim director. Wycliffe France is very grateful for Stewart’s input and leadership. Included among the many tasks to be carried out is the search for a future director who will work collaboratively with churches in France and with partners at home and overseas. Please pray for God’s guidance in this search. May the Lord lead Wycliffe France and its leader and board in a fruitful collaboration.
Leaders gathering: Asia-Pacific
Praise God with Alliance organization leaders and partners of the Wycliffe Global Alliance Asia-Pacific Area for opportunities to gather in person. After three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, they will finally see each other face to face at the Area Leaders Meeting from 22 to 24 November 2022 in Bali, Indonesia. Wycliffe Global Alliance Executive Director Dr. Stephen Coertze will be the event’s main speaker. Pray for fruitful and meaningful interactions as Stephen meets the Asia-Pacific leaders. Ask the Lord for a refreshing and encouraging reunion.
Leadership and missions: Japan
Praise the Lord for Josh Matsumaru’s re-appointment as the Executive Director of Wycliffe Japan for a third term. Thank the Lord for his wisdom and protection for Josh, and ask him to grant Josh more opportunities to promote Bible translation missions in Japan. Pray that those who hear these presentations would have receptive hearts and that many would choose to partner with and serve through Wycliffe Japan.
May God supply our needs: Guinea Bissau
Please pray for the administrative team of ITA as they seek God for his guidance, direction, and training. Ask God to open doors that have remained closed to them until now. Ask God to provide for all their needs, including opportunities for the team to be better equipped, and especially for input from someone with expertise in graphic design.
Manager of digital publishing: New Zealand
Praise God that Daniel Harris has begun his new role as Digital Publishing Manager for Wycliffe New Zealand. Daniel is helping translation teams set up digital apps and websites, making their Scripture translations more widely accessible. Pray that Daniel finds joy as he settles into this role and that he will remain focused and motivated. Join Daniel and his wife, Laurel, in praising God for his goodness, his provision, and for this special season to be close to family. Pray that Daniel and Laurel will have opportunities to share their lives, work, and faith with their families and that they can be salt and light to them.
