Streams of Prayer for 24 May 2022

The Streams of Prayer for 24 May 2022, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.

Generosity, Funding and Specialty Services

Community is at the heart of the existence of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. Serving together in community, we love, respect and honour each other. Our interdependence and interconnectedness create an environment where all Alliance organisations generously give and graciously receive. Sometimes Alliance organizations give financially. We also give in other ways including providing time, expertise and staff. We affirm each other for who we are and not for what we contribute or for the quantity of the contribution. Our primary goal is to glorify God together in Bible translation.

Organizations engaged in the Funding and Specialty Services Participation Streams demonstrate community and encourage generosity through raising funds for operations and Bible translation projects and sharing other practical skills within the Bible translation movement. Therefore, our theme encompasses these three interconnected areas: Generosity, Funding and Specialty Services.

Movement of generosity: Asia-Pacific

Describing the joint partnership event called ‘God’s Word for All’, Wycliffe Global Alliance Asia-Pacific Area Director Simon Wan declared, ‘This is a movement of generosity, showing not only each Alliance organization’s projects but everyone’s projects’. Together with the SIL Asia Area, 18 Asia-Pacific Alliance organizations will coordinate their local gatherings of this event. Pray for the outcome of this event, to be held via Zoom on 21 May 2022. Pray for God’s favour on the invitees and that many respond positively and participate in the Bible translation movement. Ask God to continue building this culture of collaboration and support of the local programmes.

Generosity in action: Cameroon

Several years ago, as the Cameroon Association of Bible Translation and Literacy (CABTAL) Chapman Centre was being built in the capital city of Yaoundé, numerous people expressed generosity by providing funds, and some offered practical help. At their own expense, technicians travelled from their various countries to work on construction at the centre. Praise God and pray with staff at CABTAL for such motivation and initiative dedicated to the ministry of Bible translation and literacy. Ask God to provide continued financial and practical support through his people for other CABTAL centres under construction. Pray for those who attend these centres undergoing training as translators, literacy personnel, and other roles to serve local language communities.

Funding to complete New Testament translation in the Guarani Ñandeva language: Paraguay

After seven years in translation, the Ñandeva people will soon have the New Testament in their language. LETRA Paraguay has started a campaign to raise funds for printing the New Testament for the Guarani Ñandeva people. In 2021, drafts of the Gospels and the book of Acts were delivered to the Ñandeva community, with the goal of the entire New Testament being published and delivered to the community in 2022. Praise God for guiding the team through the translation in ways that accelerated the process while the text quality remained high, and the translation team was able to work in cooperation with other organizations. Pray for God’s blessing on the consultancy process, for guidance through the final stage of the translation, and for financing for printing the New Testament in Guaraní Ñandeva.

“For us language is a clear light, and when we hear God’s message in our own language, our hearts are filled with joy. We feel that we are really closer to our Creator. Through it, we understand perfectly that God has come to the world to save us and that he will return again to take us to heaven.” Remencio Flores, translator.

Generosity Experienced: France

Wycliffe France continues to experience an unprecedented level of generosity despite post-COVID conditions and a delayed restart due to the pandemic. Praise God for the team of people who worked tirelessly to secure a relevant and appropriate future for Wycliffe in France. Praise God for the encouragement of ongoing financial contributions from loyal supporters who, despite a period of uncertainty for the organization in 2021, never gave up on Wycliffe France. Thank the Lord for those who join in virtual prayer meetings and intercede in prayer items posted on Wycliffe France’s Facebook. Pray for the board of Wycliffe France as they guide the operational team through the current acceleration phase. There is much to praise God for and to encourage ongoing prayer.

Friends of the Museum, Mexico

Streams of Prayer 24 May

Pray for Maná (Museum of the Holy Scriptures) in Mexico City as staff launch a campaign of financial generosity. This campaign is to raise funds to finance their biblical education and training programmes aimed at exegetes (interpreters of text, especially Scripture), consultants, and Bible translators. Maná collaborates with the Wycliffe Global Alliance in training, field projects, and specialized services. They have offered courses, seminars, and webinars about the historical and cultural perspective of the Holy Scriptures for over two years.

For more than 20 years, the museum has operated thanks to the generosity of a network of donors who identify with the vision of the ministry and students who participate in the training programmes. Together they are known as ‘Friends of the Museum’. Pray for God to provide more ‘Friends of the Museum’ so Maná can continue to bless those involved in Bible translation, and that the gospel message communicates to and impacts the lives of many in Mexico and other countries.

Provision for payroll system: Papua New Guinea

Praise the Lord that the development of the new payroll system for the Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association is progressing well. This new system will help the organization monitor and manage payments to their personnel. A private consultant is engaged to provide software use training. Thank the Lord for the generosity of a partner in the country who paid the consulting and training fees. Pray for personnel in the Human Resources and Finance Departments as they undertake the training and implementation of the new system.

Increasing organizational capacity: Indonesia

Kartidaya’s service programme for Bible translation organizations in Indonesia, Ripple Effect, helps expand organizational capacity and leadership. Praise God for his guidance and wisdom in establishing this service in collaboration with growth partners Seed Company and Wycliffe Global Alliance Asia-Pacific Area. Pray for the Ripple Effect team, currently in the process of making assessments for two organizations after providing intensive mentoring and coaching in April. Ask the Lord to increase the team’s patience, humility, and dependence on God as they serve four Bible translation organizations. Pray for sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and assurance amid changes and in the development process of this service domain.
