Streams of Prayer for 4 April 2022
The Streams of Prayer for 4 April 2022, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.
Training
Many people with different areas of expertise are needed in order to translate the Bible in a way that is clear, accurate and natural. The skills are so important that many Alliance organizations regularly offer courses in topics relevant to Bible translation programmes, sometimes in cooperation with other organizations. Training in Bible translation roles is therefore one of the seven Participation Streams.
The current theme for Streams of Prayer is Training. We will pray for those who are teaching, their students and the organizations and institutions that host these training programmes. We will ask God to provide staff, finances and equipment for the programmes and workshops, so that translation programme staff will be equipped in the many disciplines required to finish Bible translations well.
Master of Arts Degree in Translation Studies: Canada
The Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), an important recruitment and training partner for Wycliffe Canada, is currently piloting a new Master of Arts degree in Translation Studies (MATS) in partnership with Northwest Seminary. The programme is unique in three ways. First, it focuses on providing the requirements for translation consultation to experienced national translators around the world. Second, it uses a competency-based education approach delivered through local and remote mentoring, thus from their own locations students can learn and build their training around real-world translation projects. Thirdly, the training is delivered in partnership with qualified mentors from students’ host organisations. Please pray for the programme’s overall success in helping to address the growing global demand for more translation consultants. Pray also for CanIL’s ongoing efforts to ensure that each MATS student is fully funded.
Seeking new students for the School of Language and Scripture: United Kingdom & Ireland.

Pray for the staff at the Moorlands College School of Language and Scripture (SLS) in the UK as they recruit and interview prospective students from around the world for the fall 2022 SLS Postgraduate Certificate course and the spring 2023 Diploma course. Praise God for the interest already shown in the programme. Some student applicants have prior academic or professional experience, which could accelerate their progress through the programme. So pray for the students selected to attend, and for appropriate recognition of the applicants’ backgrounds.
European Training Network Meeting: United Kingdom
Pray for the European Training Network meetings scheduled for 5-6 May at Moorlands College in the UK. Also pray for unity between European training programmes, Wycliffe Global Alliance, and SIL. Finally, pray that their interactions and exchanges of ideas would be mutually encouraging and beneficial.
Oral Bible Storying workshops: Indonesia

Recognising that much of the world’s population learns through oral methods, oral Bible translation programmes are forming in North Sulawesi and neighbouring areas in Indonesia. Therefore, pray for:
- Pusat Penerjemahan Alkitab GMIM (PPA-GMIM) as they plan and organise Oral Bible Storying workshops for three language groups this year.
- God’s guidance and wisdom for the churches hosting the workshops while dealing with COVID-19 limitations.
- God’s perfect timing as PPA-GMIM finalises the schedules.
- the trainers as they prepare for these workshops.
Preparatory training for Bible translation: Taiwan
To prepare future Bible translators, Wycliffe Taiwan conducts language and culture training workshops. These workshops introduce topics like language learning methods, the phonetic alphabet, and grammar analysis. Participants learn how to overcome challenges in learning a new language, discover new methods for language learning, and prepare for cultural adjustments. So pray for Wycliffe Taiwan as they promote the programme to churches and other partner organisations. Also, ask God to raise new cross-cultural workers from Taiwan to participate in the Bible translation movement.
Translation consultant interns resume training: Papua New Guinea

Praise God for the successful completion by four participants of the BTA Consultant Internship training from 23 February to 9 March, previously postponed due to pandemic restrictions. The four people serving with the Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association (BTA) were thankful to resume and complete the training sessions. Pray for Naomi Pohonum, Edward Ofu, Titus Gamudze, and Titus Pikus to persevere despite the setbacks, and complete all further preparation. Pray that once they have completed all their training, they will be ready to help other language programmes with their consultant checking needs.
