Streams of Prayer for 7 June 2022
The Streams of Prayer for 7 June 2022, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.
People
Our current theme for Streams of Prayer is People. It is our privilege to be involved with God’s mission both individually and corporately in a variety of ways. Alliance organizations committed to the People Participation Stream recruit and/or send people to serve in Bible translation movements. Those who are sent can work either in their own country or elsewhere in the world. They can serve with their sending organization, other Alliance organizations or partner organizations.
While we pray through the requests relating to People, we will ‘Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’ Matthew 9:38. We will also pray for the Alliance organizations involved in this Participation Stream to provide excellent supportive care to staff members whether they are serving in their country of origin or elsewhere in the world. In addition, we will pray that organizations collaborate well together across different Human Resources approaches and processes when personnel from one sending organization are assigned to serve under a different one.
Service opportunities in Eurasia: Americas
On 20 April a virtual meeting about service opportunities in Eurasia was held involving SIL and 30 representatives from Wycliffe Global Alliance organizations in the Americas. Participants in this briefing were interested in knowing more about this region of the world and the need for resources to support Bible translation. So pray for:
- more people to become interested in serving in Eurasia
- Alliance organizations, churches and ministries in the Americas that are interested in sending personnel
- the beginning of this collaborative process between sending organizations in the Americas and SIL Eurasia.
Office relocation: Japan

The Wycliffe Japan team will move their office from the current location in Asaka City to the Ochanomizu Christian Centre in Tokyo this month. Therefore, ask God for strength and wisdom for the team as they work on this in addition to their other responsibilities. They are praying to resume office work in June in full capacity. Pray for a smooth adjustment during this major transition for Wycliffe Japan.
Serious staff shortages in ACATBA: Central African Republic
The administrative services departments (finance, partnership and logistics) are understaffed in the Association Centrafricaine pour la Traduction de la Bible et l’Alphabétisation (the Central African Association for Bible translation and literacy – ACATBA). The lack of key personnel causes problems in terms of meeting reporting deadlines, following up on-field activities, managing multiple functions, and dealing with staff stress. So pray that the Lord of the harvest will provide the needed staff for administrative positions. Pray for the health of the current staff members who, due to staff shortages, are also trying to cover the work of three or four people.
People needed to fill key roles: Canada

For many people, being involved in Bible translation is a hands-on experience with the accompanying struggles and joys associated with translation progress. However, key people who serve in vital roles in their home countries experience challenges and celebrations in other ways. At Wycliffe Canada finding people to take on these roles is difficult, which results in staff shortage. ‘When we are short-staffed in mobilization and applications, it is even more challenging to fill any of the other roles. Please pray that God would meet the great need we have for at least one applications advisor (preferably two), an internship coordinator, a mission coach and an administrative assistant for mobilization. We do not know who can fill these roles, but God does.’
Therefore, ask God to move in the hearts of people to contact Wycliffe Canada about serving in these key areas. Pray also that Wycliffe Canada staff members will effectively share these needs with their contacts. Finally, pray that God’s hand will be clearly seen through his provision in answer to prayer. (General information about People needs is available on the Wycliffe Canada video website.)
Staff and students in MA Programme: Spain
PROEL (the Alliance Organisation in Spain) is thankful to God for answered prayer. In February and April, three staff members from other countries were granted residency permits to continue their work with PROEL. For years they have taught in the MA Department of the training programme and also assisted with administration and finance. Pray for the students completing their MA programme in July. Ask God to guide them about possible future service in Bible translation.
Prayer support for new TAP Executive Director: Philippines

Praise God along with the Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP) for their successful 16th Biennial Conference held virtually in April, with the theme ‘Unstoppable Next Level.’ Ask the Lord for his provision of wisdom, joy and grace for the new TAP leaders: Joseph Villaflor, Executive Director (ED), and the nine-member Board of Trustees (six non-TAP members and three TAP member representatives from the North, Central and South regions). Praise God for the faithful service of James Daguman, outgoing ED, and his team.
Care centre for cross-cultural workers: Australia
Cross-cultural personnel may encounter enormous challenges that can take an emotional toll on their lives. Thank God for The Red Sea Counselling and Member Care Centre that is being set up by Wycliffe Australia personnel Mark and Lorene van Rossen. The specific aim of the Centre is to minister to cross-cultural workers who need respite and emotional healing. The Red Sea is now registered as a charity. The Rossens and others on the team are now looking to God to provide the finances to enable them to start operating. Praise the Lord for this service for reaching out to help cross-cultural personnel. Ask God to provide the needed finances.
