Streams of Prayer

Streams of Prayer for 8 November 2022

The Streams of Prayer for 8 November 2022, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.

It is a privilege to engage in God’s mission through involvement in Bible translation, but it is a God-sized job. And prayer – by the church worldwide – is the key that unlocks effectiveness in this work through dependence on God’s power. Many Alliance organizations participate in the Prayer Stream through staff who support churches, organizations, and individual “prayers” with prayer resources and opportunities. Our current theme is prayer and we will focus on praying for the strategies by which Alliance organizations engage in the Prayer Stream on behalf of those who do not yet have access to Scripture, as well as those involved in Bible translation movements.

On or near 11 November each year, Alliance organizations and partners, and some others involved in Bible translation movements observe the Wycliffe World Day of Prayer. We take a day to praise God for what He is doing amongst us, pray for the Bible translation movement and listen to His voice. This year the Wycliffe World Day of Prayer falls during the Alliance’s virtual conference Global Connect and a special hour-long virtual prayer event will be held. The theme is Trusting with Joy. Join us in praying that each individual and organization will experience renewed joy and deepened trust in the Lord, as they take time away from their normal work to encounter God through Global Connect and the World Day of Prayer.

Sunday: Two key Alliance events this week

In November each year two key Alliance events take place:

  • Starting on 8 November, Alliance leaders gather online for Global Connect meetings. Please pray for Alliance leaders as they gather virtually around the globe to worship, share and reflect.
  • On 11 November, Alliance staff gather either locally or online for the Wycliffe World Day of Prayer. Pray for Alliance staff as they participate in the World Day of Prayer in each region, either on that day or on a day that works for their organization.

Pray that God will use this week to build connections and deepen our reliance on God, in order to further His work in the global Bible translation movement.

Global Connect is an online gathering for the whole of the Alliance. On Tuesday, 8 November people from all parts of the Bible translation movement will gather together on Zoom to worship God together. Celebrate God’s provision of this opportunity to connect as a community. Pray for God’s protection on the team leading this time and for his preparation of our hearts for this week.

Today (8 November) leaders and staff of the Alliance from around the world will gather on Zoom to worship God together. Pray that the live link will work well for everyone. Ask God to help those providing interpretation to be gifted with the words to communicate. Above all, pray that there will be a wonderful sense of community amongst those who are able to join in.

Wednesday: Global Connect, challenges and opportunities

On 9 and 10 November, participants in Global Connect will be invited to watch short interviews on a range of topics. Some material illustrates the volatility and uncertainty that some organizations face and how God has sustained them in difficult times. Other material looks at advances in Bible translation and how God continues to open doors for work in exciting new ways. Pray that what they hear will inspire and excite the community. Pray also that the information shared will be useful to them.

Thursday: Global Connect, meeting together

The Alliance is divided into four regions, with an area director supporting each area. Directors of organizations in each of these areas will spend some time together on 10 November in order to reflect on what they have heard over the previous days of Global Connect. As leaders from each region meet together, pray for productive times of sharing and reflection and deepened relationships.

Friday: Wycliffe World Day of Prayer

Streams of Prayer 8 November

Traditionally Alliance organizations and many of their partners in the Bible translation movement take 11 November to pray in recognition of our dependence on God. This year the theme for the Wycliffe World Day of Prayer is Trusting with Joy. 11 November is also the final day of Global Connect. Pray that staff from Bible translation organizations will encounter God as they stop all the other things they normally do to focus on him through the Global Connect and World Day of Prayer video content.

Saturday: World Day of Prayer, global participation

In recognition that some will observe the Wycliffe World Day of Prayer at a time other than 11 November, pray for each person in the global Bible translation movement to be renewed and refreshed as they focus on him. Ask God to bring fresh passion and vision to each Alliance organization and their partners. May we see an increase in prayer for Bible translation around the world.

Streams of Prayer is the prayer bulletin of the Wycliffe Global Alliance.
