Streams of Prayer Bulletin

Streams of Prayer for May 17 2021

The Streams of Prayer for May 17, 2021, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. This is available through Wycliffe Caribbean.

Missions belong to God and the agent of missions is the Church. Please join with us as we pray for Alliance organisations engaged in the Church Participation Stream. We pray also for the Church as it participates in the Bible translation movement.

Short staffed: Chad

Please pray for the administration of Association Tchadienne d’Alphabétisation, de Linguistique et de Traduction de la Bible (ATALTRAB). Several members of staff have multiple roles due to the lack of personnel and funding. Pray for the following people as they have multiple responsibilities:

  • Streams of Prayer Dinguemrebeye Roger who is in charge of the language programmes, promoting Scripture Use. He is also a translation consultant.
  • Keudjitoloum Djetar Frédéric is Cashier, Secretary, Centre Manager and looks after IT.
  • Le Ndonam Caleb is Director and does project funding.

Thank God for their willingness to serve and their faithfulness. Ask him to encourage them and help them to persevere. Pray for the resources to grow the staff team.

Praise for God’s Provision: Caribbean

For several years, the leaders of Wycliffe Caribbean have prayed for individuals to serve in communication. Praise the Lord. He has provided a committed and competent individual who has joined the team to fill the Assistant Director of Communications position for the Caribbean region. Pray for her as she seeks to develop creative communication methods with churches, partners, organisations, and individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leadership transition: Bangladesh

Adjusting to a new leadership role during a pandemic can be challenging. Jassica Mondol will serve as the Interim Executive Director of Connections Bangladesh while Richard Halder is on sabbatical leave. Ask the Lord for wisdom, patience and protection for both Jassica and Richard during this leadership transition. Pray for strength from the Lord for Jassica’s spiritual, physical and emotional health. Pray also for mutual support and encouragement for both leaders and the teams they work with.

Serving in multifaceted roles: Papua New Guinea and Brazil

Many volunteers serving in the Bible translation ministry bring with them a wealth of experience, knowledge and skills. Praise the Lord for Alessandro and Raquel Nunes and their four-year-old son, Gabriel. They are seconded to the Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association (PNGBTA) from ALEM Brazil.

Since 2018 they have been serving in various administration roles and assisting language teams in Milne Bay. The Lord led them to take up the advisor role for the Maiwala translation project in 2019. In November 2020, Alessandro was appointed as the interim Area Programme Manager (APM) in the region when the position became vacant. So ask the Lord to provide for their needs as they serve in these multiple areas. Pray also for peace for them and their relatives in Brazil. They have not been able to visit them because of COVID-19. In addition, pray for the leadership of PNGBTA as they process and appoint a new APM soon.

Prolonged separation: Papua New Guinea and Tonga

Lupe Streams of Prayer May 17 2021 Mokena from Wycliffe Tonga Missions (WTM) began serving with the Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association (PNGBTA) in November 2017. In December 2019, she went back to Tonga and married Mosese Lui. Straight after the wedding, they both went to Papua New Guinea. Lupe stayed and Mosese returned to New Zealand to continue studies and work. They did not expect the world would be plunged into a pandemic.

Lupe is on a one-year leave that started in January. Travel restrictions brought about by COVID-19 are keeping Lupe from being with her husband or visiting her family in Tonga. Pray for peace and encouragement during this prolonged separation. Also, pray that a way will open up for Lupe and Mosese to be together again soon. In addition, pray for the leadership of PNGBTA and WTM as they provide support to Mosese and Lupe during this difficult time.

Changes to Wycliffe Global Alliance Board: Global
Nicky Chong – Singapore
Ana Cristina Mejia
Ana Cristina Mejia – El Salvador

Praise God for two members of the Wycliffe Global Alliance Board who have recently completed nine years of service on the Board: Ana Cristina Mejía, from El Salvador, and Nicky Chong, of Singapore. Thank God for the crucial roles they both have played in helping to shape the Alliance. Pray for God’s blessings on each as they continue to fill important roles within the Bible translation movement in the Americas and Asia.

Rob Lovatt – New Zealand

The Alliance board has also welcomed a new board member, Rob Lovatt, Executive Director for Wycliffe New Zealand. Praise God for Rob’s rich experience in administration and leadership within the Asia-Pacific region. Pray for him as he becomes familiar with the Alliance context and develops relationships with all those serving on the Alliance Board. Pray for the Board as they continue to seek God’s leading in making decisions regarding the Alliance’s administration and direction.

Protection in political upheaval: Chad

With the recent death of Chad’s president, the country has experienced instability as conflict has arisen among different factions. Pray that God will bring about a peaceful resolution to Chad’s political situation. Pray for God’s protection of the staff of Association Tchadienne d’Alphabétisation, de Linguistique et de Traduction de la Bible (ATALTRAB) and its partner organisations, as well as for Bible translation project staff in the country.
