Streams of Prayer for May 9 2021

The Streams of Prayer for May 9, 2021, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. This is available through Wycliffe Caribbean.

Missions belong to God and the agent of missions is the Church. Please join with us as we pray for Alliance organisations engaged in the Church Participation Stream. We pray also for the Church as it participates in the Bible translation movement.

New Personnel at Faith Comes by Hearing: United States, Global

Streams of Prayer Praise God as He continues to send quality people to fill the posted positions in Alliance organisation Faith Comes by Hearing (FCBH), which collaborates with language communities to produce audio Scriptures. Pray for the new Production Manager, Asia Programs Coordinator, Software Engineer, and Audio Processing Editor. Ask God to help them adapt to the culture of FCBH quickly. Pray that God will magnify their skills and abilities within their positions so that they will positively impact God’s kingdom.

Working in harmony: Nigeria

Pray for Patience Toma, as the Executive Director of Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT). She is quite new in her role. Pray for wisdom and guidance to move the organisation forward. Praise God for all the translators working with NBTT. Ask for good relationships with translation committees; may they work together in unity. Pray for unity and good collaboration among all the staff. Ask God to make good teamwork a hallmark of the organisation.

Alliance organisation staff affected by COVID surge: India

With the recent surge of COVID infections and deaths in India, all staff of an Alliance organisation in India need prayers for protection. Some have been infected with COVID and need prayers for healing. Pray also for staff from various partner organisations in the country who have been infected with COVID. One translator from a partner organisation died from COVID in April. So pray for his family and colleagues, especially his wife and three daughters. in addition, pray for wisdom and strength for India’s leaders and healthcare workers, as the health infrastructure has been experiencing great stress and shortages. Pray also for the whole country according to Jeremiah 17:14. “Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are my praise.” (NIV)

Change in Director: Americas Area

Streams of Prayer Nydia Garcia-Schmidt will step out of her role as the Americas Area Director towards the end of 2021. She will pursue a full-time study programme with the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies and plans to continue to serve God and the Bible translation movement. Pray for her and her husband Jim as she transitions out of her current role. Pray for Stephen Coertze, the Wycliffe Global Alliance Executive Director and his team as they discern and identify the successor for the role.

Caring for staff members: Philippines

The Philippines is one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic. To continue caring for staff members and their families, the leaders of Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP) started an online prayer time every Friday, began regularly calling every staff member via telephone or online messaging, and have extended financial help especially to those who are sick. Ask the Lord for his limitless provision of grace and mercy during these times of trials, not only to TAP and their staff members but for the rest of the country as well. Pray for mutual encouragement for both the leaders and the teams as they work together and strengthen one another.

New board members: Malaysia, Singapore

“Each Alliance organisation has its own leadership and board, but all seek to work interdependently and value the Alliance community for friendship, partnership, spiritual and other practical forms of mutual support.” It is a blessing to serve alongside people with the same passion for God’s Word. Wycliffe Malaysia praises God for their new board and Wycliffe Singapore seeks prayers for new board members who will work in wisdom and unity for the Alliance values. Ask the Lord for discernment and protection as they seek God’s leading and guidance.

Communications staff needs: Global

Streams of Prayer Wycliffe Global Alliance communications team needs additional staff with the skills and experience to help with writing and editing online and corporate content. Two great candidates have been found in Cameroon and Kenya, but there are some challenges that need to be worked through before they can join the team. One hurdle is how to integrate new team members into a global team during a time of limited international travel. Another is how to ensure suitable financial support since Alliance staff members do not typically receive a salary. Please pray for God’s provision in all areas. Many other missions organisations are looking for personnel with appropriate skills in this area. Pray for God’s provision of communications staff for Alliance organisations and partners globally.
