Weekly Prayer 17 April 2020

Sister Pauline Garvey offers the Weekly Prayer for 17 April 2020.

Brothers, Sisters and Friends,

We hope that you are doing well. However, if you or anyone you know is in need of prayers or other forms of support, please let us know

We continue to lift up our front-line and essential workers to the Lord God Almighty because He has the world in His hands. All things serve Him for His purpose and pleasure.

Today’s prayer is led by our Women’s Fellowship President, Sister Pauline Garvey.

Let us now look to the Lord in prayer

Oh Lord our God, how excellent is your name in all the earth! You are worthy to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things.  Father, you are our light, salvation, refuge and stronghold. Forgive us of any sins that we have committed and please Lord, set our spirits free. We thank you for the precious gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. You are awesome.  You are the King of the whole earth.  We honour you as our Lord and Saviour. Lord, we believe that it is your Will that each one of us prosper, be in good health and live in victory.  You set the prisoners free, provide healing, feed the hungry, rescue and deliver.

Father God, as the COVID-19 has been declared a global pandemic, many of us are fearful, but we are thankful that we can look to you the author and finisher of our faith.  We are asking that you calm our fears. Fill us with your hope, joy and peace as we continue to trust in you. We lift before you those who are working on the front-line and those who are essential workers.

Lord we know that you are not shocked by the state of the world. But we ask that you have mercy for we have been a people who have forsaken the commandments of God. We pray that your Name will be glorified through this pandemic.  For your Word says  in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV), “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

So we thank you for all front-line health care and related workers who have responded to the call to serve. Remember those in our congregation who are a part of this team. Please keep them and their families safe and healthy.

  • Medical Doctors: Asana Anderson and Rohan Wilks, Kahlete Falloon, Tina Kong, Vernon Jones, Leighton Logan;
  • Dentists: doing emergency cases; Jhenell Black, Dana Jones, Eleanor Reynolds;
  • Pharmacists: Sandra Bucknor-Jones, Viveen Watson;
  • other doctors and nurses from GMC or in connection with members and adherents of GMC who are working on the frontline (for example Richard Reynolds) and their families;

Bless and protect doctors and nurses, all the medical practitioners and research personnel in Jamaica, regionally and worldwide who are putting themselves on the front-line to bring healing and comfort to those affected.  Give them hope as they face patients daily, often without adequate protection. God help them to increase in knowledge about treatment and diagnosis. Bless the hearts and minds of those searching for a vaccine or cure.  Give them success in finding a cure. Help them to stay focused in the midst of surrounding panic. Lord, help the Christians in health care industry to demonstrate the peace that passes all understanding, so that many will ask about the reason for their hope and come to know you as the Lord and Saviour of their lives.

We pray for healing of those who are affected with the Corona virus and their families. We pray for total and complete healing. We bind the spirit of disease and sickness. Lord, take away the fear, anxiety, and feelings of isolation from persons receiving treatment or under quarantine. Lord, heal yours sons and daughters and revive them.  Father, we will not be afraid of the terror by night or the arrow that fly by day, nor of this virus that is threatening the resources of this world.  Whatever the enemy plans for evil, we ask that you Lord will turn into good for your people, and for your glory. We proclaim that you reign in our lives, our nations and all the earth.

Thank you for our leaders, our Prime Minister, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Finance, Minister of National Security and support personnel, the Leader of the Opposition and other elected officials, as they allocate the necessary resources and make tough decisions for combating this pandemic.  Also guide the leaders around the world that they be filled with wisdom to lead their countries out of this medical, financial and economic crisis.

We thank you God that you are in control and because you said that you will never leave us nor forsake us. For our Pastors and church leaders, we pray that you will continue to protect and help them as they oversee your church. We pray for a supernatural renewal. For Christian missionaries throughout the world and all believers, please help us to make use of opportunities to share the Gospel. Bless our churches and help us in our efforts to continue sharing your Word through online evangelism, in the name of Jesus.

We also lift before you again members of our congregation especially those who are in the legal fraternity, the banking industry, the service industry, security personnel, customs brokerage, businessmen and women:

We thank you that because Jesus bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases in His own body, by His stripes we are healed. Help us to remember that you are Lord over each mind, soul and body.

 Heavenly Father, thank you for protecting and shielding us from this Covid-19 virus. Thank you for covering us, our household and families with the blood of your Son, Jesus Christ.  Thank you for removing the spirit of fear and dread, for you have not given us a spirit of fear but of love, of power and of a sound mind.

We trust in your wisdom, power and goodness and we give thanks to You Lord. We know that you are in charge of each day.

In Jesus’ name we pray with thanksgiving.

Amen.
