Weekly Prayer of Encouragement 10 May

Brother Ewan Oliver offers the Weekly Prayer of Encouragement 10 May 2020.

My Brothers, Sisters and Friends, we hope that you are well. However, we continue to suggest that if you or anyone you know is in need of prayer or any other form of support, please let us know.

Based on your feedback so far, we appreciate your concern for each other. We are encouraging those who want to provide any form of support for persons who are in need at this time, to do so. One of the avenues to give support is through the church office.

Today we celebrate mothers. One could say that mothers are instruments of God’s great works. The Psalmist speaks to the mother as the carrier but God as the creator when he said:

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb;”

Psalm 139:13, NIV

Children are called to treat their mothers with love, kindness, respect, understanding, and the list goes on. This is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it. Interestingly, it was not given with a pre-condition. The scriptures reads:

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

Ephesians 6:1-3, NIV

Kristyn Getty and others did a song called, “A Mother’s Prayer”. One verse of that song really shows that a mother should trust God over her abilities. It goes like this: “You’ll travel where my arms won’t reach as the road will rise to lead your feet on a journey of your own. May my mistakes not hinder you but His grace remains and guide you through; this is my prayer for you”.

There are those who, for various reasons, may not have a mother to celebrate. However, our Heavenly Father reminds us of His sufficiency through His relationship with the people of Israel. He asked the question:

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”

Isaiah 49:15, NIV

He later promised them:

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

Isaiah 66:13, NIV

May our God fill us with His love, His peace, His goodness, His comfort, and His presence. As He does so, may we open our hearts and minds to receive.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all you precious mothers.

Today’s prayer is led by our own Brother Ewan Oliver, who is our fairly new Men’s Fellowship President. Brother Ewan (Moses) is a business owner who is ably assisted by his wife Sister Maxine. She is also a member of GMC.

We try to give you a little information about the person who is praying, hoping that it may provide a reminder for those who may need to know who is praying. We also hope that it will help us to know how to intercede for some of our brothers and sisters.

Let us pray:

Abba-Father, Our Eternal and Almighty God, we come in the name of Jesus Christ asking that You be merciful unto us as we humbly approach Your Holy Presence, in Spirit and in Truth. We come to You this day in virtual communal worship with our praises, thanksgiving and supplications.

Oh Father, we as Grace Missionary Church thank You for allowing the sacrifice of Your only Son, Jesus Christ, so that we may exercise this divine privilege of entering into Your majestic presence of grace and love. So we approach Your eternal holiness with thanksgiving and praises, oh Heavenly Father.

We thank You for making it possible so that humankind can inhabit this blue planet -Earth- in accordance with Your mighty and celestial plan. Thank You, for our lives, and all lives on earth. We thank You for our nation: Jamaica Land we Love! We thank You for our congregation, and for our families. Thank You also for our church administrators, members, adherents, and all who are within the network and span of the ministries of this church. And, merciful creator, we thank You for the mission of winning souls for Your eternal Kingdom.

Our Father, in these times of uncertainty, manifested pestilences, such as the coronavirus, high crime rates, rumours of wars, and earthquakes in diverse places, and with an ever-increasing attendant death toll of human lives, we beg for Your mercy and forgiveness.

We beseech Thee, oh Holy Father, forgive us of our sins and inequities. Your forgiveness, Your mercy, Your grace and Your love, is the only spiritual drink that can empower, save and lift us to a new level in You!

Lord we ask that You give our world leaders wisdom. Give our nation’s leaders wisdom. Also give our church leaders wisdom; and, give us wisdom, oh gracious God. We now realize beyond the shadow of any doubts that we cannot do this alone. We need Your word, Your guidance and Your strength. You are the Master Potter and we are the clay. We need to delve deeper and deeper, on a daily basis, every day to seek Your guidance. Help us to do so, o Lord.

Lord we stand with and on behalf of our national leaders: including Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Minister of Health Christopher Tufton, Minister of Finance Nigel Clarke, health workers and support staff, Minister of National Security Horace Chang, Peter Philips leader of the opposition and their families; Jamaica Defence Force and Jamaica Constabulary Force personnel and Security Guards.

These are indeed turbulent times! Nevertheless, Almighty God, we pause to lift up our CHILDREN in a special way, during this designation of Child’s MONTH for Your special blessings.

Even though, there seems to be signs of the last days, we invite your divine blessings on our TEACHERS as they recently celebrated TEACHERS’ DAY.

Even more so, oh Heavenly Father, Creator of LIFE, you have set this special and holy honour on our women to be MOTHERS OF LIVES. So we seek a divine blessing and grace on all our Mothers for this designated day: Mothers’ Day.

Our God and Father, in these dark times as the world seem to be in turmoil, we will continue to praise you and lift up your Holy name. We will worship and adore you and magnify your matchless name. We will seek to be closer to you.  You are in control, and we believe that you will renew our spirit, and double our strength.

So, in thanking you dear God, we wish to use every precious breath to speak life, light and love on this day.

For these and all your mercies, we bless your name oh Lord,
through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

AMEN
