Effectiveness and Transformation
Twice a year, we like to look back and celebrate how our prayers have been answered in Bible translation movements. Together, we thank God for how He graciously responds to our prayers, and we are encouraged as we consider all He has done for Alliance organisations and the communities they serve. We rejoice at how God’s Word is impacting individuals, communities and nations and how churches and partners are joining together to participate in His mission. And we are grateful for how He is transforming communities through His Spirit and His Word.
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18, NIV)

Encouraging developments: Japan
- Praise God for Wycliffe Japan’s Online Seminar which started during the COVID pandemic and continues yearly. The latest was held on 31 May. It is an effective opportunity to tell about Bible translation work and Wycliffe Japan. Pray for all who participated that God will encourage them to get involved in translation ministry.
- Josh Matsumaru, Wycliffe Japan’s Executive Director, will present at an Introduction to Linguistics class at Tokyo Christian University on 11 June. This is a great opportunity to connect with young people and tell them about Bible translation movements and the work of Wycliffe Japan. Pray that God will raise new workers, especially translators.
Efforts in fundraising: Germany
Wycliffe Germany is intensifying its efforts in terms of fundraising. Last autumn Wycliffe Germany retained Antje Becker, an experienced fundraiser with a big heart for the Word of God. Pray for her that God would guide her planning with Wycliff leaders who want to position Wycliff as a fundraising organisation in Germany and professionalise communication with donors. Please pray for wisdom and fruitful contacts. Also, Wycliff Germany has sent a large mailing to all donors from the last two years. The goal: 5,000 financial partners donating 100 euros each. Pray that God would move many to give toward this goal.
Local funding and translation promotion strategy: Cameroon
CABTAL recently launched the 10-10-2 campaign for local contributions to start 10 new Bible translation programmes and dedicate 10 New Testaments over the next 2 years. Following the launch event at the National Museum in Yaoundé on 9 May, over 150 people gathered in Bamenda for the campaign’s launch in the Northwest region. The event was marked by strong participation, powerful testimonies and a united vision to see more lives transformed through the Word of God. As in Yaoundé, everyone present committed to supporting the campaign financially. Thank God for the growing impact of this initiative among CABTAL staff, churches and the wider public in Cameroon. Pray that those who have made commitments will remain faithful in their support. Also, pray for the success of upcoming campaign events in Douala and Maroua.
Involving young people: Singapore
- Give praise for the “Journey” missions exposure programme that Wycliffe Singapore conducted at a church on 17 May. There were more than 100 participants, including the church youth group, who came and learned what it is like to serve in a missions context. Praise God for the opportunity to partner with a church and pray for ways to continue to improve the “Journey” to serve churches in the coming years. Pray for God to call some of those participants into service in the work of translation.
- Praise God for two undergraduates from local universities who are serving with Wycliffe Singapore in Media and IT. One of them attended Camp Wycliffe in Thailand, 25-31 May, a mission exposure programme. Pray for them in this time of learning.
The Bible in Eastern Apurimac Quechua: Peru
Glory to God! After 17 years of hard work, prayer and dedication, the complete Bible in Eastern Apurimac Quechua is a reality. This achievement is the joint effort of committed translators and the support of many people at different stages of the project. In March, 8,500 copies arrived, published by the Peruvian Bible Society, and distribution in the communities began in April. The community joyfully received the Word of God in the language of their hearts. Praise the Lord for the completion of this Bible and pray for his continued work to transform their lives.
Celebrating with the communities: Burkina Faso
ANTBA‘s 33rd year of existence coincided with the dedication of its first complete Bible translated into the Nuna language, in the town of Léo, 170 km from Ouagadougou. The celebration was well attended by various traditional, administrative and religious authorities. Thank God that this event marks his favour on ANTBA, which has now completed 13 Scripture dedications in its years of collaboration with the country’s linguistic communities. Praise God for the 22 translation programmes now underway, including one in sign language, 10 oral translation projects, 11 written translation projects, five New Testament projects and seven Old Testament projects. Thank God for the commitment of all language teams and the technicians who work with them with determination. Praise God that the printing of the New Testaments in the Bissa Barka, Djan and Bwamu Cwii languages has been completed.
New board members, first female chair: Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association (PNGBTA) recently had its Biennial General Meeting, during which a number of new board members were elected. Praise God for those who have served previously, and for the new members who have stepped up to serve. One of the significant changes is that for the first time, a woman was elected to be the chair of the board, Mrs Hane Kila. Please pray for the board orientation that will take place in June, and for a smooth transition of the board. Pray also for wisdom for the chair as she leads, and for all board members as they serve Bible translation movements in Papua New Guinea.
