Streams of Prayer for 12 May 2025

The Streams of Prayer for 12 May 2025 is a circular from the Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.

May 11, 2025 – May 17, 2025

Church

As an Alliance, we believe that the purpose of the local church is to glorify God through participation in his mission: drawing people to Christ and making disciples. All who are part of the Alliance have the opportunity to serve the church and complement its ministry as we collaborate in Bible translation movements. (See Statements regarding Wycliffe Global Alliance’s relationship with the church.)

We also seek to listen to and learn from churches worldwide in order to build strong relationships for mutual encouragement and equipping. Together, we seek to encourage the meaningful, unique and complementary roles in God’s mission that he leads each church and organisation to fulfil. Join us as we pray for Alliance organisations engaged in the Church Participation Stream and for the worldwide church as it participates in Bible translation movements.

Discerning steps forward together with churches and organisations: Germany

From 13-15 May, Wycliffe Germany will hold a special conference. Participants will think and talk about how to move Wycliffe’s work forward into the future. Besides a good number of Wycliffe staff, representatives from various churches and Christian organisations will participate. Please pray for God’s leading in discerning strategic steps forward. Pray that the interaction during these days would contribute to strengthening the relationship between Wycliffe and churches in Germany. Wycliffe desires more church groups to use its Karimu conference centre and increasingly understand that it is closely linked to enhancing the work of Bible translation. Pray for good communication with churches regarding possibilities for them to use these special facilities. Pray for a growing understanding among churches regarding our working together for Bible translation movements.

Faithful church participation: Indonesia

Praise God for churches like GMIM (Gereja Masehi Injili di Minahasa, the Christian Evangelical Church in Minahasa) in Indonesia that participate so faithfully in Bible translation movements. Thank God for GMIM’s provision of venues, food and accommodation for translation efforts. Ask God to provide wisdom for GMIM leaders in shepherding their congregations. Pray for church members to have unity and hearts of love, forgiveness and humility. Ask God to help them engage in collective introspection and to grow in integrity and spiritual restoration.

A divine partnership: Ghana

The Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT) considers that Bible translation and the church are two sides of the same coin. They are inseparable and mutually essential. As the primary end-users of Scripture engagement materials, the church plays a crucial role in ensuring that translated Scriptures are embraced, understood and lived out within communities. Thank God that by recognising this vital relationship, GILLBT has deepened its collaboration with churches in Ghana. Praise God that this has also been creating more opportunities for pastors, congregations and Christian institutions to benefit from Scripture materials and related training. GILLBT has been making deliberate efforts to strengthen these partnerships, with a shared goal of making God’s Word accessible and impactful across Ghana. Pray for GILLBT’s diverse ongoing church engagement efforts to foster unity with and for the churches and engage more of their leaders.

Doing surveys to understand readiness: Indonesia

Yayasan Kaleb Yosua, an Alliance organisation in Indonesia, will help conduct surveys for the Mantobi and Tamuan language groups to determine the readiness of their churches to start Bible translation. Seven people will conduct the surveys. The survey areas are remote, and the language groups are still attached to traditional religious belief systems. Ask God to protect the surveyors as they travel. Pray also that the survey results will be useful for the team to serve these language groups for future Bible translation.

Church collaboration for PrayZ conference: Romania

Praise God for collaboration among churches and mission organisations like Wycliffe Romania that organised the PrayZ conference held in January in Timișoara. PrayZ is open to believers of all ages who wish to cry out to the Lord in fasting and prayer for Generation Z. While the conference focused on fasting and prayer, it also aimed to present various mission opportunities for participants. Local churches in Timișoara and other parts of Romania were encouraged to pray for participants to have open hearts toward God’s mission and to get involved in the projects that were presented. Some churches from Timișoara highlighted opportunities for short mission trips as well as local ministries. Over 100 participants committed to getting involved in several mission projects in Romania and other countries, both short-term and long-term. Praise God for this active and inspiring partnership of churches with mission agencies like Wycliffe. Thank God for this gathering of people from diverse backgrounds to pray together for GenZ and to inspire involvement in God’s mission and for the demonstration of God at work within and through all involved.

“A church that translates”, a gathering with pastors: Argentina

LETRA Argentina hosted a gathering with pastors on 11 March to dialogue about the role of the Argentine church in Bible translation. They had conversations about the importance of the church playing an active role in mission, the current challenges in Bible translation and the need for teamwork that transcends generations. Praise God for the pastors who were present and who shared reflections with LETRA Argentina staff, and to each person who joined the meeting. Together, they expressed the goal to keep moving forward together. Pray that as a result of this meeting, God will inspire more churches to become involved in Bible translation.

Working for a greater ownership of the Church: Nigeria

For many years, the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) has been intentionally working to mobilise the church in Nigeria toward active participation in Bible translation efforts. Thank God for some of the churches that collaborate well. Pray that these continuous efforts will bear more fruit. NBTT is planning two major events this year. One is a conference specifically for pastors, and the second one is a dinner for denominational leaders. Pray that through these strategic gatherings, a renewed passion will be stirred within the Nigerian church. Pray that this will inspire the leaders to effectively embrace the work of Bible translation and take a greater leadership role. Pray that this will also bring about their commitment to provide the necessary resources to support the mission of translation.
