Effectiveness and Transformation
Twice a year, we like to look back and celebrate how our prayers have been answered in Bible translation movements. Together, we thank God for how He graciously responds to our prayers, and we are encouraged as we consider all He has done for Alliance organisations and the communities they serve. We rejoice at how God’s Word is impacting individuals, communities and nations and how churches and partners are joining together to participate in His mission. And we are grateful for how He is transforming communities through His Spirit and His Word.
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18, NIV)

New way to engage churches in prayer: Switzerland
For the World Day of Prayer for Bible Translation in November, Wycliffe Switzerland organises prayer days to which they invite not only their own staff members but also friends, supporters and anyone who is interested in Wycliffe’s work. These usually take place in churches. Although many churches are happy to let Wycliffe use their buildings for this annual event, few of their church members have shown much interest in attending the event themselves. This year, Wycliffe Switzerland is trying a new approach by asking churches if they would like to incorporate the prayer day into one of their own events, making it their event, which Wycliffe helps out with, rather than the other way around. A few churches are eager to carry out this idea! Thank God for these new opportunities for collaboration.
Transformed lives of project staff: Nigeria, Global
We know that “the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword” Hebrews 4:12a (NIV). Watch this story and rejoice that God turned one man’s life around through his becoming part of a project in Nigeria. We thank God that not only was his life changed, but also the lives of all his family members. Pray that everyone involved in projects will encounter the living God and be transformed.
Audio recording for the Dasê people: Brazil
Translation of God’s Word into the Dasê language has been a fundamental step in the process of bringing the gospel message to this community. However, many Dasê people face difficulties in reading, whether due to low literacy levels, lack of reading habits or simply a natural preference for oral communication. Access to audio Scriptures will allow the entire community to hear and understand the Word of God in a clear, accessible and culturally relevant way. It will facilitate the formation of disciples, the strengthening of the local church, and the possibility for Dasê believers themselves to become storytellers, evangelists and active instruments in the expansion of the kingdom of God. ALEM is in the process of raising funds for the audio recording of the books of Genesis and Jonah for the Dasê people. Praise God for the availability of these Scriptures. Pray for the process of finding funds to record Scripture into Dasê and that both written and audio formats will bring life transformation.
By God’s grace: Ghana
Staff of GILLBT, by the grace of God, praise God for the kingdom impact they have seen across all areas of its operations. The dedicated Communications team manages and streamlines internal and external messaging. The Scripture engagement and church engagement departments conduct workshops with various projects and collaborate with churches nationwide to strengthen partnerships in spreading the gospel through Scripture. Pastors, literacy facilitators and church leaders connected with more than six projects annually receive training in Scripture engagement. Literacy efforts not only help community members read Scripture, but also teach them to dramatise Bible stories, bringing them to life in powerful ways. Thank God that this year, GILLBT is preparing to celebrate its anniversary on 29 June, in cooperation with churches across Ghana. This will be an occasion dedicated to thanking God for his faithfulness. Pray for good preparations for these events.
Changed hearts: Peru
‘In our community, many things have begun to change since we started translating the Bible into our Shapra language, ’ translator Guillermo Nochimata said. In this Shapra community, God is transforming people’s lives. There is less fighting and violence. Many are leaving behind old customs that were not pleasing to God. They are experiencing more peace, unity and love. Shapra speakers from other communities also want the team to continue translating the Bible. ‘They tell us, “Don’t abandon this work, please finish it!” Guillermo said. They long to have the complete Bible in their language, which encourages the team to keep going. ‘We want to finish this work, because we know that God is working mightily through his Word’, Guillermo said. Give thanks to God for the impact that the Scriptures have had on the community. Pray for Guillermo and the team as they continue to work on translation in partnership with AIDIA.
Encouraging progress: Central African Republic
Thank God with ACATBA that:
- Churches testify that the JESUS film, produced by ACATBA in local languages, is a powerful tool for community evangelism, church growth and church planting.
- Scripture engagement activities in regional and local languages have led to changes of heart and changing negative behaviours such as violence, hatred and grudges.
- Through the community trauma healing sessions led by the ACATBA team, many broken lives are being restored, as expressed in testimonies of impact and gratitude.
- Thanks to the many translation awareness and mobilisation campaigns, church leaders and ACATBA staff report that revival, enthusiasm and involvement in Bible translation are becoming stronger.
- Recent phonology workshops have enabled 14 people to use their languages in writing.
- With literacy classes operating, illiteracy rates are falling year after year in local language communities.
Committed partners and local communities: Kenya
BTL is thankful to God for the way he has continued to help in building relationships with its partners. Partners have continued to give financial, social and even emotional support. Thank God because this contribution ensures that Bible translation continues on behalf of unreached people groups. Give thanks for the completion, dedication and launch of the Upper Pokomo New Testament that took place on 26 April in Hola Town, Tana River County. The body of Christ came together and raised funds locally for the occasion. There was a lot of joy as the Upper Pokomo Christians received the Word of God in their heart language. Before the celebrations, the community took time to seek the face of God in prayer. God graciously heard and answered their prayers. To him be all the glory.
