Bible Translation Programmes
Wycliffe Global Alliance serves Bible translation movements because we long for language communities to encounter God through His Word. As written in the Alliance Foundational Statements, one of our core values is “trusting God to transform lives through His Word translated into the languages and cultures of the world’s peoples”.
We will pray for Bible translation efforts around the world and specific ways that Alliance organisations participate in the Bible Translation Programmes participation stream. We will also celebrate lives changed through Scripture and pray that many more communities will be powerfully impacted as they encounter God through the Bible translated into the language they understand best.

Effectiveness and progress in translation: Togo
Wycliffe Togo is working in seven Bible translation programmes—four in oral translation and three in written translation. Praise God for this work, which is being done in partnership with several stakeholders, including the church, local communities and funding partners. Thank God for translations of Luke, Mark and Acts, which have been made available in oral form to the churches and communities for the Dangbe, Kpessi, Hudou, Idatcha, Watchi and Konkomba people. Pray for effective continuation of translation activities in each community, including linguistic research, setting up the language committees and recruiting translators. Give thanks to God for the Togolese church as a stakeholder in this mission. Pray for a growing and significant impact of this work in people’s lives.
Meaningful connections and expanding involvement: Japan, Peru, Canada
Wycliffe Japan praises the Lord for recent connections:
- Josh, the Executive Director, visited AIDIA in Peru in May and attended the Apurímac Quechua Bible dedication. He also visited a Japanese-Peruvian church in Lima and the Japanese Gospel Church in Vancouver, Canada. Praise God for these meaningful connections.
- Wycliffe Japan’s Online Seminar on 31 May went well, with 20 participants. It was an opportunity to talk about Bible translation, Wycliffe Japan’s work, and songwriting activities in an Indonesian minority language. Praise God for people with a passion for Bible translation. Pray that seeds of involvement and prayer will grow.
Pray for:
- Rei Ishikawa, a new member, who is attending the 12-week PNG Orientation Course. She will serve with SIL-PNG as a Scripture engagement and ethno-arts worker.
- Plans for the Wycliffe Camp to be held 21-23 September in Nagano, Japan. This three-day camp introduces Bible translation work and exposes potential cross-cultural workers to basic linguistics and tools for language learning and intercultural communication. Pray for good preparations and that God will bring many participants with a heart for missions.
Oral Bible stories completed in two languages: Indonesia
Give thanks for the 33 oral Bible stories that have been produced for two language communities in the Tadulako Cluster project in Central Sulawesi: Jaule* and Tata*. Praise God that a dedication was carried out in June, and that the Bible stories have been enjoyed by the local communities. Pray that God’s Word will touch people’s hearts, grow their faith and bring transformation in their personal lives, families and communities.

New project starts and Scripture distribution: Philippines
Projects starting
- TAP praises God for the June launch of the Tandaganon New Testament project in Tandag, Surigao del Sur. Pray for the team and trainers as they begin the work.
- Praise God for community consultations about an oral Bible translation project for the Bayyo, Can-eo and Talubin communities in Southern Bontok, which may start in October. Ask for fruitful follow-up to the discussions.
Translations being distributed
- Pray for the distribution of the Boînёn New Testament and Rinconada New Testament in the Bicol region. Pray that God’s Word will refresh and transform the lives of people in these communities.
- Pray that translated Scriptures will also transform people’s lives in each of these communities: Agta Nagtipunan, Ayta Ambala, Balangao, Bukidnon, Binukignon, Dulangan Manobo, Gaddang, Ginsalugen Subanen, Inati, Kinamayu, Kinaray-a, Sumadel, Tandaganon and Teduray.
Praises and prayer needs: Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association (PNGBTA) shares the following items for prayer and praise:
- Praise God for the annual Papua New Guinea Bible Bilum Forum, hosted by PNGBTA, 23-26 June. More than 40 organisations attended. Visits by Sir Arnold Ames, former member of the national parliament, and Prime Minister James Marape provided encouragement for the work of translation and acknowledgement of the partnership that makes it possible. Pray for God’s continued blessing on partnership and collaboration among all the organisations involved in Bible translation in the country.
- Pray for healing for some staff who have been faced with medical challenges. Pray for good health for all staff.
- Many drafted Scripture books are awaiting consultant checks, and more consultants are needed. Pray that some trainee consultants successfully complete their training soon in order to provide needed consultant checks.
Multiple partners nudge a full Bible toward completion: Philippines, United States
The Balangao New Testament was published in 1982, thanks to the partnership of SIL Global and many churches and individuals who supported the work. Those who came to faith in Christ through reading the Balangao New Testament turned away from fear-driven spirit sacrifices and began experiencing the peace and hope of God. Balangao people used the Scriptures for teaching, evangelism and outreach, and the New Testament was reprinted three times. After more than 40 years, however, a revision was needed—and the Balangao community also longed for the Old Testament in their language. Efforts to translate the Old Testament began, but progress was sporadic. The Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP) stepped in to oversee the project. Global Partnerships began contributing funding for the Old Testament translation and New Testament revisions, and Wycliffe Philippines contributed staff. To date, 25 per cent of the Old Testament has been consultant-checked. Pray for:
- Final revisions to Revelation so the New Testament can be recorded by Faith Comes by Hearing in early 2026.
- The Old Testament to be completed within this decade. Praise God that Davar Audio Bibles has committed to recording the audio.
Whole Bible translation: Brazil
When ALEM began to set Vision 2025 goals, the Hitotati* language community was identified as needing Bible translation. Much has been accomplished in the project, with progress made in translating both New and Old Testament books. Pray for:
- Consultant checks of Acts and Mark in September.
- Audio recording of Genesis, Ruth, Jonah and Luke in October and November.
- Scheduling of consultant checks for Exodus 1-20, 1 Timothy, and 1 and 2 Thessalonians in the coming year.
- Completion of the draft of Matthew.
- New project facilitators to continue the work.
