Streams of Prayer for 2 June 2025

The Streams of Prayer for 2 June 2025 is a circular from the Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.

June 1, 2025 – June 7, 2025

Church

As an Alliance, we believe that the purpose of the local church is to glorify God through participation in his mission: drawing people to Christ and making disciples. All who are part of the Alliance have the opportunity to serve the church and complement its ministry as we collaborate in Bible translation movements. (See Statements regarding Wycliffe Global Alliance’s relationship with the church.)

We also seek to listen to and learn from churches worldwide in order to build strong relationships for mutual encouragement and equipping. Together, we seek to encourage the meaningful, unique and complementary roles in God’s mission that he leads each church and organisation to fulfil. Join us as we pray for Alliance organisations engaged in the Church Participation Stream and for the worldwide church as it participates in Bible translation movements.

Sharing as partners in God’s mission: Kenya

BTL is thankful for its partnership with the church in Kenya for so many years. It’s a mutually beneficial collaboration that increases prayer and financial support for Bible translation. This relationship enables investment in God’s mission by BTL and the churches through the sharing of strategies. The churches in Kenya have always participated in these activities, opening their doors as well as initiating and running some of these strategies. This happens in Mombasa in a church-led BTL initiative of the Run for The Bibleless event. Thank God for the planning committee made up of church leaders who mobilise their churches, look for corporate sponsorships, invite the chief guest speaker and ensure a successful run. This has been going on for the last four years and has been made possible thanks to the relationships that the BTL church engagement team has built with Kenyan church leaders.

Facilitators of AIDIA, Asociación Interdenominacional para el Desarrollo Integral de Apurímac, continue to strengthen discipleship efforts through home cell groups as well as teaching Bible lessons during church services. An ongoing training approach seeks to develop committed Apurímac Quechua leaders who will open new groups in neighbouring communities where there are no churches yet. This year, a total of 54 new leaders from 31 churches were trained in three different areas. The first module, ‘Understanding the Christian Faith,’ was taught to the leaders who could then teach it at their cell groups. Also, a discipleship process was developed in the South Pastaza area, focusing on the second module, ‘Growing in My Spiritual Life’. In addition, instruction in youth mentoring, marriage counselling and church service support were provided to church members. Twenty leaders participated in the South Pastaza discipleship process. Thank God for the leaders who are being trained for discipleship in the home cell groups and the churches in the various regions.

Church engagement: UK, Africa

Children in churches in Lofsang* in West Africa are discovering the joy of God’s Word in their language. With nearly half the population under 15 and few Bible resources available, the Sunday school programme that takes place in partnership with Wycliffe UK is bringing change. Praise God that children eagerly attend the Lofsang* Sunday school programme. Pray that this enthusiasm grows and that church leaders in Lofsang* continue to support Sunday school teachers in discipling the next generation.

The 100,000 Beran* people live in a part of Africa deeply affected by war. Yet God is moving. Timothy* and his team are planting churches and have begun translating Bible stories to bring hope. Pray that more churches will be planted as the Beran* people engage with Scripture in their language. Praise God that a new Beran translation team has been formed. Pray that the translated Bible stories will have great impact.

Pray for Wycliffe UK’s church speakers as they inspire others across the UK and Ireland to leave a legacy for Bible translation. Pray for new church partnerships as a result of the Wycliffe team having shared about Bible translation at two events in May: the Elim Leaders’ Summit and the Assemblies of God National Conference.

Engaging children for Bible translation: Indonesia

The South Jakarta Indonesian Christian Church held an activity for Sunday school children with the theme “I Love Bible”. Sunday school teachers from several churches taught that God longs for every people group to know him and grow in the truth of his Word through a language close to their hearts. The Sunday school children also learned how long it takes to translate the Scriptures and how many language communities in the world still need access to God’s Word in their language. Teachers instructed children about the stages and challenges of Bible translation. They were given the experience of praying for one language community.  Thank God for the churches who long for others to understand the importance of Bible translation. Pray for the children and Sunday school teachers to increasingly appreciate the truth of God’s Word and to share the joyful news they receive. Pray for the Indonesian Christian Church Synod to be increasingly involved in God’s mission.

Faithful service despite violence: Burkina Faso

As an arm of the church, ANTBA takes seriously their role of making the Word of God available to all the linguistic communities of Burkina Faso in their mother tongues. ANTBA is governed by the Federation of Evangelical Churches and Missions. Give thanks for the leadership and personnel that emanate from the missions that make up the Evangelical Church in the country. Ask God to continue to support the church against terrorist attacks which have been occurring since 2015. Thank God that despite the violence, the church continues its work and was able to dedicate the first whole Bible in May in the south of Burkina Faso. Pray that the Lord will transform people’s lives as they gain access to His Word in a language they understand. Pray for ANTBA and the churches as they continue the work of translation in challenging circumstances.

Mobilizing the church in Bible translation: Venezuela

The National Coordination of Translation, Literacy and Linguistics, CTAL (by its Spanish acronym), is a fundamental pillar of the General Directorate of Missions (DGM) of the Assemblies of God in Venezuela. CTAL has a team of coordinators who are in charge of conducting workshops on the importance of Bible translation and literacy in different districts and with local churches. They thus encourage a passion for translation with the purpose of raising up workers in the churches who are willing to be trained in literacy and translation. CTAL is currently promoting its Basic Course in cooperation with the Seminary of the Assemblies of God, SEPAD, to work toward having Bible translation be an integral part of church culture. Pray for the development of the Basic Course as well as the CTAL´s plan to give the course Language and Translation in the Mission of God to all the districts of the Assemblies of God at the national level. Give thanks that despite the economic crisis in the country, the CTAL mobilizers continue with their activities investing their own resources, recognising that God provides for them so they can continue with His work.

Multiple means of church collaboration in Asia: Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia

Staff of the Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP) praise God for the growing awareness in Philippine churches about Bible translation ministry. Ask God to send more workers and advocates. Pray that the called-out younger generation will find their places to serve in Bible translation. Also, pray for church engagement activities geared towards distributing the remaining translated Scriptures in Majukayong, Rinconada, and Boînёn. A church in Singapore has invited 25 church leaders from Gereja Masehi Injili di Minahasa (Christian Evangelical Church in Minahasa) of Indonesia, known as GMIM, to participate in their annual mission convention on 27-29 June. Pray for preparations for this collaboration, and for the church leaders as they learn how the host church involves its congregation in missions. Pray for these leaders to learn ideas for how to mobilise people in their church for involvement in Bible translation and missions.
