Effectiveness and Transformation

Twice a year, we like to look back and celebrate how our prayers have been answered in Bible translation movements. Together, we thank God for how He graciously responds to our prayers, and we are encouraged as we consider all He has done for Alliance organisations and the communities they serve. We rejoice at how God’s Word is impacting individuals, communities and nations and how churches and partners are joining together to participate in His mission. And we are grateful for how He is transforming communities through His Spirit and His Word.

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18, NIV)

Thanksgiving and desired transformation: Indonesia

Kartidaya has much to thank God for:

  • That his Word has been translated into several different languages.
  • The completion of the Gospel of Luke in three languages that were dedicated in North Kalimantan in May.
  • All the team members who have contributed to these translations.
  • The support of local churches for the translation projects and dedications in each region.

Pray that individuals and communities will be transformed by these translated Scriptures.

Celebrating finished Scripture: Norway

Praise God with Wycliffe Norway for two recently completed translation projects:

  • The whole Bible in Kasonké of Mali, dedicated in Bamako in April. Guri Enger of Wycliffe Norway served as translation advisor for the Old Testament for about two decades. She had to relocate to Norway about ten years ago due to political instability. However, work continued via the internet. (The project has been led and funded by Normisjon, a partner mission of Wycliffe in Norway.)
  • The Saafi New Testament with Genesis and Exodus, printed earlier this year. Wycliffe Norway members Hillebrand and Jorunn Dijkstra have worked with the Saafi people in Senegal for more than thirty years. The Saafi Scriptures – available in two scripts, Ajami and Latin – are awaiting customs declaration before a dedication can be held. (The project has been led by SIL Senegal and funded by Wycliffe Norway.)

Pray for the impact of the Kasonké and Saafi Bibles, that believers will be strengthened in their faith, and many more come to know the triune God.

Impactful activities: Nigeria

Since late February 2025, the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) has conducted orthography workshops for 49 language projects, with the new methodology enhancing translation efforts. Thank God for this large number of languages involved and the expected impact to his glory, and for wisdom and strength granted to the linguists and the facilitators who worked tirelessly to achieve this goal. NBTT has also launched a Scripture engagement initiative using contextualised gospel movies in local languages. In May, a short film was produced by and for the Eggon people in Nasarawa State. Pray that the film draws people to God. As NBTT marks its 49th Anniversary on 1 July, thank God for His faithfulness. Ask God to refresh the leadership with strength and passion to continue working according to the vision of NBTT, to help provide communities access to God’s Word in their heart languages.

Encouraging progress: Taiwan

Wycliffe Taiwan supports Bible translation work for two endangered languages in Taiwan—Kavalan and Siraya—while assessing the feasibility and needs of translation work in the Siraya language. Pray for the development and advancement of these language projects. Praise the Lord with Wycliffe Taiwan that there has been encouraging progress in the digitisation of the Kavalan Bible manuscript. The volunteer team has adopted a new approach to ‘train’ the software, significantly improving its ability to recognise the translators’ handwritten manuscripts. The digitisation of the book of Proverbs has now been successfully completed, and the team hopes to continue with digitising the remaining books of the New Testament. Pray that these Scriptures will deepen people’s understanding of who God is and encourage their faith.

Advancing Bible translation: Brazil

The Symposium on Bible Translation in Brazil was held from 17 to 21 March in Guarulhos, São Paulo. There were about 160 participants, including scholars, translators, facilitators, consultants and leaders (both hearing and Deaf). They gathered to discuss how to increase cooperation for the advancement of translation in the various contexts in which God has called them to serve. This diverse group of people represented organisations, mission agencies and denominations. Praise God for the opportunity to gather together such a large group of people serving in the Bible translation movement in Brazil. Pray that he will continue to work in and through the relationships built at this event.

Expanding prayer network: South Africa

Prayer is a key component of the mission of Wycliffe South Africa (WSA). That is why WSA has welcomed a new volunteer dedicated to prayer and intercession. The prayer team is now made up of Lenthia Erasmus and Ansie van der Merwe. Thank God for the efforts they are making together to coordinate WSA prayer initiatives. Praise God for mobilisation of intercessors as a result of their teamwork. WSA is seeing God orchestrate divine appointments, opening doors to new prayer contacts and enlarging networks. Ask God to continue this growth. Pray that this team will faithfully steward both ongoing and emerging prayer efforts and that God will give them insight to prepare prayer resources for the launching of several new translation projects. Pray for more people to feel the need to stand in the gap through prayer.

Unexpected provision: France

Staff of Wycliffe France give thanks to God for the fact that he has always been present despite the difficulties encountered in recent years. Wycliffe France reached a crisis last autumn, when they were facing such a cash shortage that the board was on the point of closing the organisation for lack of funds. However, the Lord opened doors to unexpected funding, which enabled Wycliffe France to continue its activities for his glory!
