Celebrating what God has done through Vision 2025:
New ways of working
This year, we are celebrating all that God has done through Vision 2025. Twenty-six years ago, Bible translation movements were challenged to embrace changes that would help us to work more effectively. The reason: so that Scriptures could become available much more quickly to every language community that needs access to the Bible in a language they can understand. We have been looking periodically at how God has worked to bring this vision closer to reality, and we invite you to join us as we celebrate the wonderful ways in which God has changed Bible translation movements.
This week, we celebrate and pray for new and innovative ways of working developed in the Bible translation movement during the last 25 years.

Training partnerships: Dallas, Brazil, Indonesia, Uganda, Ukraine
Dallas International University (DIU) leaders praise God for opening new doors for partnership between DIU and ALEM in Brazil, allowing for shared efforts in providing training for Bible translation and related fields. More recently, DIU signed an MOU with Jakarta International University (JIU), a Christian university in Indonesia that seeks to educate servant leaders who can bring positive change to local and global communities. This new, formalised partnership lays a foundation for cooperative academic programmes, faculty and student exchange, research collaboration, and community service opportunities. Pray for DIU leaders as they continue developing similar partnerships through their global instructional sites in Uganda, Brazil, Indonesia and a planned launch in Ukraine. Pray that these efforts will equip local leaders to serve their language communities with excellence, and that each partnership will reflect unity in Christ and lasting impact for the kingdom.
Change of focus relating to Vision 2025: France
Wycliffe France was founded over 50 years ago, but in recent years the organisation has experienced rebirth in several ways. In order to comply with new French regulations, but also to give more importance to local people and churches where translation is happening, Wycliffe France as an organisation has decided to stop sending workers. Instead, they will support translation programmes in other ways, such as by sending funds, praying, connecting people or providing guidance. It’s a big change of focus, and Wycliffe staff trust that God will lead them through this new way of working. Pray that God will use these efforts to his glory and to help many gain access to the Bible in their own languages.
AI tools being used to accelerate Bible translation: Global
Praise God for artificial intelligence (AI) tools that have been developed for drafting Scripture translations. Computer-based tools for Bible translation have been used for a long time, but with rapid developments in AI, the speed of drafting has been reduced significantly. Some of these tools are being developed in a partnership between Alliance partner SIL Global and XRI Global, a Dallas-based company that develops AI-powered language technology especially for underserved language communities. The partnership is sponsored by Every Tribe Every Nation. Drafts created with AI tools go through the same revision and Scripture checking process as human-created drafts. Sometimes, a first draft can be produced from an existing translation in a closely related language, or a completed New Testament can serve as the basis for producing a first draft of the Old Testament in the same language. Praise God for those producing effective translation drafting tools. Pray that he will continue to help the teams developing these tools, and that translation teams will be greatly helped in their work. Praise God for lives that will be transformed as a result of having quicker access to Scripture.
Oral Bible translation and transcription: Southern Africa
Across southern Africa, a new approach is resulting in accelerated translation and waves of transformation. Praise God that through oral Bible translation and transcription (OBT&T), communities are receiving God’s Word in their preferred oral form of communication, and that then these oral translations can be produced in written form through transcription. Pray for the 24 language communities that Wycliffe South Africa works with across southern Africa. Many of them are completing their first books of the Bible, such as the Marenje in Mozambique who dedicated the four gospels in 2024 and soon will release Acts through 2 Corinthians. These are being distributed through audio Bibles, radio, printed booklets, apps and Scripture films in order to reach all parts of the community! The Sepulana in South Africa have a website containing both the oral and written translations of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Soon, Mark will also be printed and made available through the LUMO Gospel Film.
Developments in sign language translation: Global
Staff of DOOR International praises God that at least seven sign languages now have more than 25% of the Bible (New Testament equivalent) completed! Additionally, according to Deaf Bible Society, it appears that more translation has taken place among sign languages in the past 12 months than in the previous 40 years!
- As partner organisations continue to engage Deaf communities to encourage the start of Bible translations, pray for Deaf communities that still have few believers and need an established church in order to help move sign language Bible translation forward in their communities.
- The next six years will see a push to complete full Bibles in the largest 17 sign languages. (Only one of these, American Sign Language, currently has a full Bible.) Pray for these efforts: for wisdom, for provision of people and financial resources, and protection over the work.
Growing church partnerships and leadership: Indonesia
Kartidaya staff thank God for leading the journey of Bible translation ministry in Indonesia. Over the past 25 years, they have seen God move churches and denominations to become increasingly involved in bringing his Word to every people group.
- GKI (Evangelical Christian Church of Papua) began partnering with Kartidaya in 2015 and has served in 16 language communities. In a historic milestone, God has raised eight Papuan young people to serve as facilitators in their own region. Praise God for these young people, and pray that, as a result, more language communities will gain access to the Bible, for the glory of God.
- In 2011, Kartidaya began partnering with GKST, the Christian Church in Central Sulawesi. The work has grown to 10 languages. Previously the church mainly supported through prayer and funding; now local people are directly involved. Kartidaya trains and mentors facilitators. GKST now has two translation consultants-in-training (CITs). Praise God for the fruit of the church’s prayers and faithfulness. Pray that God will use these two CITs to bless many language communities.
Kaaps Psalms that Sing: South Africa
Praise God that phase two of the Kaaps Psalms that Sing project started at the end of September. Over the past two years, a team of artists from the Kaaps community in Cape Town, South Africa, have been poetically and musically translating the Psalms. So far, they have completed 53 Psalms, with many more underway. This new initiative, Psalms that Sing, uses a 10-step multimodal approach to translation. Through creatively internalising each psalm and exploring equivalent styles of local poetry and music, language groups around the world are starting to translate the Psalms orally, transcribe them and put them to music. Pray for the Kaaps team as they spend one week per month translating the Psalms and putting them to music. Pray for the Kaaps community who are seeing widespread transformation and incorporating their own cultural forms of expressing their faith in Christ.
