Generosity, Funding and Specialty Services

Community is at the heart of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. As we serve together in community within global Bible translation movements, we seek to show each other love, respect and honour. Through recognising interdependence and interconnectedness, we seek an environment where all Alliance organisations are free to give generously and receive graciously. Giving takes many forms, such as through providing time, expertise, staff or financial assistance. We affirm each other for who we are and not for the type or quantity of the contribution. Our primary goal is to glorify God together in Bible translation.

Camp Wycliffe: Hong Kong, Thailand

This year, Wycliffe Hong Kong is partnering with Wycliffe Thai Foundation again to promote Camp Wycliffe 27-31 May. The programme provides participants with a taste of language learning, cross-cultural experiences and community service in a rural area. Participants also will hear from seasoned mission workers and seek God’s guidance about future service in missions. Pray for those who will participate in this year’s camp, that God will lead them to next steps. Pray, too, for smooth coordination between Wycliffe Hong Kong and Wycliffe Thai Foundation.

The National Bible Translation Table of Mexico will hold its annual retreat 30-31 May and will conduct a workshop, Generous Offerings and Stewardship, A Study of the Old and New Testaments, directed by Nydia Garcia-Schimdt. This workshop is designed for pastors, translation teams, administrative staff and Bible translation movement leaders. Pray for this time of retreat for the Mexico Table and that the workshop will be a great blessing to all participants.

Working toward full access to the Word of God: Europe

Praise God for illumiNations, a collaborative group of Bible translation agencies working with a shared vision that everyone will gain access to God’s Word within the next 15-20 years. IllumiNations partners connect with major donors to work toward making available all the needed resources to fulfil this vision. This movement started in the U.S. and is now growing in Europe, where weekend events were held in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, illumiNations Europe dinners for potential donors will take place in October and November in Edinburgh, Belfast and London. Pray for good connections with those God is asking to be part of this important ministry. Pray also for preparations for the events and that everything runs smoothly. Pray for Simon Austen as he takes on the role of liaison with illumiNations Europe for Wycliffe UK & Ireland.

Initiatives for local communities: Togo

Praise God for two special training workshops of Wycliffe Togo. One provided the language programme boards and translation teams of the Kpessi, Woatsi and Idaatcha languages with a better understanding of the work of translation as well as training in how to initiate translation programmes with collaborative local participation. In the other workshop, Kalaam Media, in partnership with SIL Togo Benin, provided training for the Dangbe, Houdou, Ewé, Ikposso, Peda, Idaatcha and Guinynaga languages in how to post Scripture in their languages and content about their language programmes on the web. Pray that many people in these language communities will be transformed by God’s Word as a result of these efforts.

Tool added to sign language translation software: Global

The SLTT team, which includes staff from DOOR International and United Bible Societies, has released a project progress tracking tool that complements the SLTT (Sign Language Translation Tool) developed for Deaf translation teams. For those familiar with Paratext used for written translations, SLTT is similar but supports video translation. The newly released complementary tool, SLTT API (application programming interface), allows project staff to track project activities, access a list of partners involved in the projects, and more. Praise God for this newly expanded interface. Pray that as Deaf teams learn this new software, they can use it to more efficiently manage their projects and partnerships.

Transition training for remote indigenous ministries: Australia

Thank God for those who helped develop T-TRIM (Transition Training for Remote Indigenous Ministries). T-TRIM has proven effective in helping non-indigenous people to understand Australian indigenous cultures better. Praise the Lord for Rachel, who helped run the course in Darwin for four days in March. Pray that the T-TRIM course equips participants to minister effectively alongside Australian indigenous believers.

The local contribution counts: Cameroon

In recent years, Cameroon Association for Bible Translation and Literacy (CABTAL) has increased its avenues for securing local funding for Bible translation. To foster community participation in translation programmes where CABTAL serves, local churches are collaborating through income-generating projects. Thank God for individuals from these communities, particularly leaders in business, government and academic spheres (including some based outside the country), who are being encouraged to contribute to translation efforts in their respective languages. Pray for resilience for CABTAL staff members who mobilise funds with churches in urban areas, for God’s favour on meetings to engage potential financial partners and for the success of the Little Drops mobile phone contribution initiative. Pray that all of these local fundraising initiatives bear fruit and advance Bible translation and literacy in Cameroon.
