Generosity, Funding and Specialty Services
Community is at the heart of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. As we serve together in community within global Bible translation movements, we seek to show each other love, respect and honour. Through recognising interdependence and interconnectedness, we seek an environment where all Alliance organisations are free to give generously and receive graciously. Giving takes many forms, such as through providing time, expertise, staff or financial assistance. We affirm each other for who we are and not for the type or quantity of the contribution. Our primary goal is to glorify God together in Bible translation.

Initiatives in generosity and financial management: Indonesia
Two Alliance organisations in Indonesia praise God for recent initiatives related to generosity and financial management. Gereja Masehi Injili di Minahasa (GMIM) held a retreat, Journey of Generosity, on 17 and 24 March. Praise the Lord for this initiative to encourage participants to understand Bible translation ministry and cause them to desire to take part in it. Continue to pray that God will open more opportunities to share this with many others. Also, Evangelism and Discipleship Ministries of Papua (YMP3) is grateful for God’s guidance last year for initiatives to improve their financial accountability. They continue to need finance personnel with relevant training and expertise. Ask the Lord of the harvest to provide the people they need to serve in their finance department.
Consultation for the European church and communities without access to Scripture: Europe
Wycliffe Global Alliance Europe Area is holding a consultation from 3-5 June to inspire vision and passion for Bible translation for Europe’s Deaf and Roma communities. The aim is to gather partners, Alliance organisations and other stakeholders to facilitate relationships and collaboration as well as to identify and address the Scripture needs for the Deaf and Roma throughout Europe. Praise God that members of the Deaf and Roma communities in Romania will help facilitate most of this consultation. Pray that everyone comes with open hearts and that God clearly shows those involved in these Bible translation movements what the next steps are. Ask God for passion, vision and unity.
Unexpected blessings: Paraguay
Thanks to a generous donation from a partner organisation, LETRA Paraguay has been blessed with a van that will serve as an invaluable resource for its entire community. In addition, LETRA Paraguay received an extraordinary donation to build a facility for one of the translation teams to carry out their work. This group of partners not only financed the construction, but also provided the necessary materials. Praise God for the generosity of these gifts and the commitment that these partners have to God’s mission. LETRA Paraguay is grateful for these shared blessings and the generosity of the body of Christ, which enables translators to work more effectively with the communities they serve. Pray for this group of brothers and sisters who want to continue partnering with LETRA’s work in translation through this kind of service.
English immersion programme: Thailand
In 2016, Wycliffe Thai Foundation started a 3-week English programme to help improve the English skills of its personnel. The teachers were from the U.S. and Canada and the programme continued until COVID in 2020. Praise the Lord that the programme resumed in July 2022. Starting in 2023, it was rescheduled to May so that those who study at Payap University and those who join Camp Wycliffe can attend. Last year, a total of eight students from five countries joined the programme. For this year, please pray for:
- 8 to 12 students and 4 volunteer teachers
- 5 to 6 families to provide volunteer accommodation
- the students to develop more confidence in speaking English
- students to learn more about Bible translation and its related ministries.
Resource Mobilisers: Wycliffe South Africa
Wycliffe South Africa (WSA) has appointed two resource mobilisers to activate the South African community to give to Bible translation. Busani Mcingolwane joined the WSA team in 2023 as the church engagement and partner development coordinator. His main responsibility is to help mobilise resources for Bible translation in South Africa. Thank God for the passion Busani has for inspiring, encouraging and equipping people to make their contribution to God’s kingdom. Pray that his efforts will bear much fruit. Mesuli Tshele also joined WSA in 2023. His role is to mobilise funding for the organisation by engaging existing relationships with foundations, organisations and church movements and establishing new relationships with these organisations. Pray that God will allow him to find favour with all those with whom he interacts.
Accounting year completed successfully: Hong Kong
Praise God for Christina and Kam, Wycliffe Hong Kong finance staff. Kam is the accounting officer who handles finance operations, and Christina is the office assistant. In Hong Kong, the accounting year ends on 31 March. Since most donations are received during this time and people need receipts for tax declaration, the finance work is especially heavy in March and April. Thank God for helping Christina and Kam to complete their work. Ask the Lord for joy, wisdom and strength for them in their respective roles.
Donors for new projects: Burkina Faso
The leaders of the SIL Burkina Faso team hope to start four new Bible translation projects in 2024. Pray that the SIL staff involved in facilitating the start of these translations will have the necessary wisdom and energy. Pray that the Lord will prepare these communities, stirring in them a desire to have the Scriptures in their own languages. Pray that he will provide donors willing to help finance these projects.
