Bible Translation Programmes
Wycliffe Global Alliance serves Bible translation movements because we long for language communities to encounter God through His Word. As written in the Alliance Foundational Statements, one of our core values is “trusting God to transform lives through His Word translated into the languages and cultures of the world’s peoples”.
We will pray for Bible translation efforts around the world and specific ways that Alliance organisations participate in the Bible Translation Programmes participation stream. We will also celebrate lives changed through Scripture and pray that many more communities will be powerfully impacted as they encounter God through the Bible translated into the language they understand best.

Prayer for Alliance organisations and students in Middle East: Jerusalem, Global
The world has watched events in the Middle East unfold with great concern. Pray for all those involved in translation in the region who are affected. Pray also for Alliance organisations involved in preparing translators for Old Testament translation from Jerusalem. One leader in the region reminded us that ‘as Kingdom people we must remember that our primary task is to stand before the throne of God and intercede for the advancement of his purposes’. Pray for:
- Peace in the region, safety and peace for students and staff onsite in Jerusalem, and the ability of students to focus on their language studies.
- Wisdom for leaders facing decisions about travel, safety and how to continue their work in such challenging circumstances.
- Protection and wisdom for translation teams in the region.
All people in the region to have access to God’s truth and know his love for them
SALT Workshop: Papua New Guinea
A SALT (Scripture Application and Leadership Training) workshop is planned for the first two weeks of July for the church and community in Maiwala Village in the Milne Bay Region. SALT equips pastors and leaders to use translation Scriptures in their ministries. Other language programmes such as the Tawala, Suau, Are, and Auhelawa have been invited to send participants. Pray for the Maiwala translation team, the church and community and the Bible Translation Association of Papua New Guinea regional office staff as they work together to prepare for the event. Also, pray for clear communication so that information may reach the other teams on time to arrange transportation and other details. Ask God to prepare all who will attend to learn well and be able to apply what they learn.
Desiring God’s entire revelation: South Africa
Wycliffe South Africa observes that while there is good reason for Bible translation to start in the New Testament, only 10 per cent of language communities around the world have a full Bible in their mother tongue. Many of the foundational truths of Scripture are laid out in the Old Testament. Some language communities have requested translation of the full Bible. Pray for this process for the Koti, Meetto, Nahara and Makonde language communities in Mozambique, which already have the New Testament. Thank God for six students from these language groups who spent nine months studying Hebrew in Jerusalem. Pray for them as they assimilate back into life in Mozambique. Pray for the Koti, Meetto, Nahara and Makonde teams as they start oral Bible translation in their languages.
Oral Bible translation training: Peru, Malaysia
AIDIA (Asociación Interdenominacional para el Desarrollo Integral de Apurímac) is a fully indigenous organisation that currently leads nine Bible translation projects and plans to initiate four new projects that will include oral Bible translation (OBT). After several months of exploring opportunities for inter-regional collaboration between two Alliance organisations, Wycliffe Malaysia and AIDIA, representatives from Wycliffe Malaysia visited AIDIA to facilitate an OBT workshop in Abancay, engage with churches in the region and participate in the dedication of the Bible in Quechua. A representative from Wycliffe Japan also participated in this visit. As a result of this visit and training, AIDIA will form a team for the implementation of OBT in the new projects. However, there is a need for OBT consultants. Give thanks for the collaboration between these Wycliffe Global Alliance organisations in Asia and Latin America. Pray for the provision of OBT consultants and the training of facilitators and consultants in Latin America.
Challenges of serving in translation remotely: Switzerland
Wycliffe Switzerland has 15 members working in Bible translation programmes remotely from Switzerland. This has some advantages but also disadvantages. Pray for good internet connections, which are vital for communication with team members, and good team dynamics despite not being in the same place. Another challenge is for them to raise enough support. The cost of living in Switzerland is high, but some donors are less willing to partner with people who are living in their own country. Pray also for safety, as some of them travel regularly to sensitive locations.
Community mobilisation: Central African Republic
ACATBA has several Bible translation programmes in the Central African Republic, including those in the mobilisation phase. A six-language cluster project, the Omene Community and Church Engagement project, has had mobilisation activities underway since January. All of this is preparation for starting New Testament translation programmes for the Banda ndélé, the Banda mbré, the Langbashé, the Ngbaka Mandja, the Gbaya Bozoum and the Ngombé language communities. Let us pray for the success of this mobilisation phase. Ask the Lord to help identify people within these six communities who will be able to carry out the programme. Pray that the church will be involved well in these projects, especially providing people to serve in the projects. Pray that the Lord will remove any barriers that might lead people to refuse to come together to advance the work of these programmes.
Serving vision needs to enable Bible reading: Nigeria
The Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) is making steady progress in its programmes. In some communities that already have the completed New Testament, many people still struggle to engage with Scripture due to vision problems. In response, NBTT is partnering with medical firms to offer free eye checkups, glasses and cataract operations.
- Thank God for this holistic initiative, helping people access God’s Word through improved vision.
- Pray for the success of this initiative, healing for those with poor eyesight, smooth collaboration with partners and more creative efforts to meet both physical and spiritual needs.
