Generosity, Funding and Specialty Services
Community is at the heart of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. As we serve together in community within global Bible translation movements, we seek to show each other love, respect and honour. Through recognising interdependence and interconnectedness, we seek an environment where all Alliance organisations are free to give generously and receive graciously. Giving takes many forms, such as through providing time, expertise, staff or financial assistance. We affirm each other for who we are and not for the type or quantity of the contribution. Our primary goal is to glorify God together in Bible translation.

Massive landslide leaves devastating damage and hundreds dead: Papua New Guinea
On 24 May a massive landslide in Enga province, Papua New Guinea, left hundreds of people dead and more than 2000 believed to be buried under the rubble. Relief teams are finding it challenging to access this isolated area. Bible translation personnel from SILPNG and the Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association (PNGBTA), including former PNGBTA director Steven Thomas and his wife Elizabeth, are confirmed safe. Steven and Elizabeth were not in the affected area at the time it happened. However, many of their family members and relatives perished in this tragic disaster. Please pray:
- For comfort and peace for those who lost loved ones
- For the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing of everyone affected by this tragic disaster
- For good weather to enable access for relief efforts into the affected area
- That this situation would turn the hearts of people to God
- For the Enga translation team as they reconsider the dates for the dedication of the revised New Testament that was planned for 11 July.
Running event to raise funds for missions: Thailand
In 2028, Thai Christians will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the gospel coming to Thailand. As part of the celebration, Wycliffe Thai Foundation has set a goal to send out 25 mission workers by 2028. To achieve this, the organisation has planned to hold a running event called Lit Run Fun Trail in Chiang Mai on 2 November to raise funds. They aim for 300 participants from Thailand and abroad to run for 10 kilometres. Pray that:
- Wycliffe Thai Foundation will get permission from the government and communities to use the race location and have good cooperation and management in running the event.
- There will be enough supporters.
- There will be at least 300 participants.
- All participants will be safe.
- Wycliffe Thai Foundation will reach its goal of raising funds and sending 25 workers.
Encountering God’s abundance through generosity: France
Rejoice with the staff from Wycliffe France that they have unexpectedly encountered God’s abundance through the generosity of a church in Austria sending a large gift. This was a great encouragement to the whole team especially as they have been in a long leadership transition. Praise God for his goodness and thank him for the generosity of this church and others who give to Bible translation movements.
Internal and external services: Central African Republic
The Association Centrafricaine pour la traduction de la Bible et l’Alphabétisation (ACATBA) renewed its Board of Governors during the Association’s General Assembly held 8-9 March. Give thanks for the new leaders who have taken office for the next four years and ask God to inspire and guide them. Thank God also for Jim and Sarah Park’s six years of service as technical support for Bible translation programmes in Central African Republic. The Parks served in various support capacities including: maintenance of computers and solar panels, recording the JESUS film and Walking with Jesus series in various languages plus an English course for the translators. Thank God for so much technical investment. Pray that the skills passed on will be put to good and lasting use, bearing fruit to the glory of God.
Funding for translating the Gospel of Luke: Indonesia
The Evangelism and Discipleship Ministries of Papua (YMP3) have prepared a proposal for a translation programme for the Gospel of Luke and the JESUS Film in five languages (Ambel, Matbat, Kawei, Tepin and Iha). Pray for fundraising efforts. Pray for enough donors to support the programme so that it can be started in Raja Ampat in June as scheduled.
Using resources with wisdom: Switzerland
Pray for wisdom for the projects department of Wycliffe Switzerland as they have many more projects they would like to support than money to fund them. Ask God to provide many generous donors and to help the team find creative ways to make this great need known. Pray for wisdom for potential donors. They are often busy and over-solicited. Ask God to help them make time to decide whom to trust and what to do with their money in line with his will.
Scholarship assistance: Thailand
Praise God for approximately 30 years of financial assistance offered by SIL’s Mainland Southeast Asia team to Payap University linguistic students from around Asia. Many of these students have gone on to support translation and literacy efforts in their own countries. In addition to financial support, the SIL team provides encouragement and practical help while the students are away from their home countries. Pray for God’s continued guidance and inspiration for Payap students and graduates who are (or will be) serving throughout the region.
