Global Gathering
The Global Gathering of Wycliffe Global Alliance will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa from 31 October to 4 November 2024. The theme is ‘Growing Together’. It is an opportunity for the directors and board chairs from each Alliance organisation along with partners and guests to gather together, hear God’s voice and learn from one another. This will be the first Global Gathering in eight years, as the 2020 gathering was cancelled due to the pandemic. As this is such a significant event, we ask you to pray for the preparations, particularly now as there are only two and a half months left to finalise details.
Divine leading for many practical and conceptual details
The coming months will be busy with finalising many things – practical and conceptual. Please pray for divine assistance. Pray for the final planning meeting in September, for wisdom and clarity. Pray for relationships among the Global Gathering planning team. Most of the team will not meet in person until the event; ask God to help the team members support one another well.
Completion of registrations and provision of funding needs
Pray that the remaining 100 invitees yet to register will do so soon, and that there are no visa issues. Pray especially for those organisations without adequate funding to send delegates. Praise God for some generous gifts from other Alliance organisations that will help cover the costs for some of these participants. Pray that God will provide the remaining funding for all who have need, so that they can attend.
Management of event details and coordination with hotel staff
Please continue to pray for Asanda and Nokwanda from the event management firm assisting us from South Africa. They are doing an amazing job of collecting all the information from over 300 attendees and sending it to the hotel, which is not an easy task. Pray for the hotel staff, especially the Accommodation Coordinator. Pray for a good relationship with her, for favour and open two-way communication. Pray for information about who has paid and been sent invoices to flow more effectively from the hotel so Alliance staff can follow up.
Inspiration for speakers and session leaders
Pray for everyone who will contribute to the programme as speakers, prayer leaders, session leaders, etc. Ask for inspiration and divine guidance as they prepare their materials and discern how to lead us in reflection and sharing. Pray that through the various contributions we can together discern God speaking to us.
Protection and energy for all who will work at the event
Pray for the teams that will work at the Global Gathering (logistics, media, production). Many have multiple responsibilities in addition to Global Gathering tasks and preparation. Ask God to protect their health and guard their schedules. Pray that they will have the energy they need for staffing the event.
Hearts to be prepared to hear from God and each other
Pray that God will prepare the hearts of all delegates to participate at the Global Gathering, to engage with the other delegates and to receive from God what he has in store for them. Pray that the delegates can be inspired and encouraged through the event.
Preparation for virtual participation and inspiration for the whole Alliance
Pray for the virtual portions of the event. Pray that people meeting in their Alliance organisations will be able to engage well with what is happening at the Global Gathering from their locations. May this process be inspiring, and may it be an avenue through which the whole Bible translation movement is strengthened.
