The Streams of Prayer for 5 November 2024, is a circular from Wycliffe Global Alliance. Wycliffe Caribbean makes this available.
November 3, 2024 – November 9, 2024
Prayer
Prayer—by the church worldwide—is central to Bible translation movements. Engaging in God’s mission is a privilege, but it is also a God-sized job. Only through dependence on his power can we carry out this work effectively.
As an Alliance, we seek not only to help people to pray through Streams of Prayer but also to encourage creative ways to engage in prayer for Bible translation movements. Many Alliance organisations participate in the Prayer participation stream through staff members who provide churches, organisations and individual ‘pray-ers’ with prayer resources and opportunities. Each year we also facilitate content to help Alliance organisations plan activities for the World Day of Prayer for Bible Translation on or around 11 November.
Our current theme is Prayer. We will focus our prayers on the strategies by which Alliance organisations engage in the Prayer stream on behalf of those who do not yet have access to Scripture, as well as those involved in Bible translation movements.

Monday
The theme for Day Five (4 November) is ‘Dependence on God’. Ask God to give discernment and clarity as we consider all that we have learned together and seek to understand how God wants the staff in each Alliance or partner organisation to respond. Pray that everyone will be able to stay present with God and each other, solidify new friendships, feel his peace and make the most of the final day as their minds naturally transition to getting home. Pray for those who have been at the Global Gathering to take encouragement and challenges back to their organisations and communicate well with staff and board members.
Tuesday
Praise God for all he has done during the Global Gathering. Celebrate his goodness and kindness to all who are a part of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. As participants leave South Africa, pray for good flights and travel home; for time and space to process the wealth of information received; and that they are able to think through opportunities that have opened through conversations and interactions. As the staff team has a debriefing session and finishes its duties, pray that God would encourage and strengthen them. Pray for the Alliance Board as they meet on 5 November and the Alliance Leadership Team as they meet on 6 November, to encounter strength and wisdom – especially as they consider what the event’s outcomes will mean for Alliance leadership.
World Day of Prayer: Global
The annual World Day of Prayer for Bible Translation will take place on 11 November, just a week after the Global Gathering finishes. The two events have the same theme, ‘Growing together’. Pray that the World Day of Prayer will help the whole Alliance community feel connected to what God has started doing amongst us through the Global Gathering.
Prayer in partnership with churches: Central African Republic
The prayer resources produced by the Association Centrafricaine pour la Traduction de la Bible et l’Alphabétisation (ACATBA) include an article that is shared with various prayer networks every Monday with topics for praise and intercession. When ACATBA staff visit churches, they bring an article entitled “Communications to the churches” which contains items to pray for during the visit. At each Scripture publication celebration, prayer requests are distributed to participants. Among recent answered prayers, thank God for eight new Bible translation programmes that have started, for oral Bible translation that has begun in three languages, for the zeal shown for community prayer within ACATBA and in the churches, and also for the connections that are being strengthened with churches. Pray for planning and provision for a training of intercession group leaders in the churches.
Multiple prayer platforms: Canada
Praise God for expanded prayer channels of Wycliffe Canada:
- A newly begun Wycliffe Canada Prayer YouTube Channel with monthly videos of guided prayers for Bible translation partners
- Increased engagement with the weekly Prayer Alive email, which tells stories and invites prayer for Bible translation projects and partners supported through Wycliffe Canada
- Continued growth of participation in the monthly Intercessory Prayer Partner emails
The prayer team also rejoices in seeing God at work through their weekly hour in the Unceasing Prayer for Bible Translation platform.
Prayer partners pray for 60 language groups: Switzerland
As part of Wycliffe Switzerland‘s 60-year jubilee, the organisation has set the goal of onboarding 600 new prayer and financial supporters for 60 Bibleless people groups. So far, an additional 130 new prayer supporters have come on board this year. Wycliffe Switzerland is continuing to advertise their goal on their website, during church visits, and at events such as the annual prayer day. Please pray for Swiss people to respond to this call to action and be led by God to pray for language communities that still need access to Scripture in a language they can understand!
Appointment of country leader for Pray for Zero: Papua New Guinea
Pray for Tony Kotauga, country leader for the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Pray for Zero prayer movement. Tony was appointed on a voluntary basis for six months starting 1 October. He will oversee prayer mobilisation efforts in PNG, aligning with Pray for Zero’s mission that all language communities in PNG have access to God’s Word. Increased prayer support is crucial. Tony will also coordinate various tasks including developing a national prayer strategy, casting vision at events, building relationships and capacity with local church leaders, and organising prayer summits. He will lead a team of volunteers to facilitate prayer mobilisation activities and collaborate with the Pray for Zero Pacific director on planning, budgeting, and reporting. Pray for Tony in this vital role and his other responsibilities with JAARS and his church and community.
Streams of Prayer is the prayer bulletin of the Wycliffe Global Alliance.
