Weekly Prayer 26 April 2020

Sister Leisha Lyn-Cook offers the Weekly Prayer for 26 April 2020.

My Brothers, Sisters and Friends,

We pray that you are doing well. However, if you or anyone you know is in need of prayer or any other forms of assistance, please let us know.

As you all are aware, we are still in an unpredicted zone as we grapple with the impact of the Covid-19 Virus. There is still a measure of fear, anxiety and unexpected changes that many persons are dealing with at this time. So I pray that our heavenly Father will grant us the peace, comfort, covering, provision, mental and physical strength, right thoughts, attitudes and behaviours to face each moment.

Sometimes we are called to a different place during times of adversities. These are times that God may want to do something extraordinary in and through us. I recalled words of a song done by Deniece Williams:

“….My soul desire is to be used an empty vessel longing to be filled by you;
my soul desire is to serve You Lord, to do your perfect will, to work each day and build your Kingdom. This is my soul desire.”

What is it that God wants to do in and through you amidst the lock down that we are experiencing? Do you know? If not, why not ask Him?

Today’s prayer is led by our own Sister Leisha Lyn-Cook. She is a local and short-term cross cultural missionary. Her local missionary focus is being done in Rae Town, which is led by Sister Barbara Kelly. Yes, it has taken on a different focus but has not stopped.

Let us now look to the Lord in prayer:

Dear God, we come in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking you for being an Amazing and loving God. Thank you for taking care of your children and so many others. Thank you for your covering, protection and provision.

Forgive us of all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we forget to thank you for your goodness, even in the midst of crisis, forgive us Lord we pray. You are still good and faithful and we worship you!

Lord we lift up to you our world leaders as well our local government leaders including, the prime minister Andrew Holness; health minister Christopher Tufton, and health workers; finance minister Nigel Clarke; minister of national security Horace Chang, and security workers; leader of the opposition Peter Phillips; church and private sector leaders. We ask that you grant them wisdom, discernment and understanding in the process of their tasks at this time. So have mercy on us and help us through these trying times.

Lord I pray that you will continue to grant us your peace as we keep our hearts and minds focused on you. Grant peace and comfort to those who mourn. May your peace flood over anxious hearts and fearful minds and cause them to be still, and remember that you are still God; our God, our Father, the one who loves us beyond our wildest imagination. Wow! May we sit in awe as we ponder how much you love us.

Help us to see your hand at work even in the midst of suffering, sickness and pain.
Let us remember Lord as we complain of having to stay home that there are many whose place that they call home is less than adequate and may be just a small room that fits many.
Let us remember as we stock up on groceries that there are many who are unable to purchase basic necessities because they have had no income.
Even as we complain of having to work from home, let us remember those who have no work and have lost their jobs during this time.
As persons get tired of having to home school their children, let us remember the many children who lack the facilities and parental guidance to continue school at home.

We pray Lord for the many persons who must stay home in abusive situations and now have not the haven/escape of work, church or school. May you protect them from evil and show them the way out.

Help our eyes and hearts to be opened to the promptings that you give to share and be a light to this darkened world. You have made us your light so that we may shine and prove that the darkness can never put out the light. May we shine with kindness, love, empathy and boldness in a way that the darkness cannot comprehend.

Open our eyes to see that that the fields are white and the harvest is ripe, and we are the harvesters being sent to reap the crops. So many persons are looking for hope, help, peace and the way out. Let us be willing to introduce them to the One who is all this and more. For Jesus you are the way, truth and life.  You are the Prince of Peace. You are the Waymaker. Jehovah Rapha, you are still the healer. Jesus you are our living hope that doesn’t disappoint.  May we share you and your word with others so that they may discover all of who you are and more.

In this season may we fulfill the commission you have placed on us. Let us not miss the opportunity to answer your call. For this is just but a season. So let not this season end and we have not changed or have not introduced others to the One who can cause us to change forever. Let us not be found wanting when you judge but let us fulfill our purpose for this time.

So Lord we look to you for guidance, for your leading, for your strength and also for your deliverance. Help us to keep our eyes on you, to hold fast to your promises, to give thanks in all things and to discern the times so that we may fulfill our purpose in this season.

We love you and give you glory. All honour and praise belongs to you alone. Let self be slain and pride be shattered as we depend on and submit to you.

Blessed be the name of the Lord God almighty who lives, and reigns forevermore.
in Jesus’ name we pray with thanksgiving.

Amen!
