Weekly Prayer 24 April 2020

Sister Alecia English offers the Weekly Prayer for 24 April 2020.

My Brothers, Sisters and Friends,

We are on a journey of turbulence with the Covid-19 Virus and it does not look like there is calmness in sight anytime soon. Yet, we encourage you to keep focused on the assurance that God is our Shepherd and we are His sheep. He is the kind of Shepherd who does not run away from His sheep. He guides, searches and finds us. He leads, provides, anoints, protects, and He restores our souls.

Many are working assiduously to steady the waves of impact from the Covid-19 Virus. We are extremely grateful to God for those persons who are front-line and essential workers, as well as our leaders. We continue to lift them up to our Sovereign God, Yaweh Adonai; the God who is all sufficient, El Shaddi.

This week’s prayer is led by our own Sister Alecia English who is an essential worker in the area of aviation. She is a member of the Rae Town mission team, which is led by our local missionary Sister Barbara Kelly.

Let us now look to the Lord in prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father we come to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, to say thank you for being who you are. You are the never changing, always faithful God who has His watchful eye on His creation; You are God above all. You are the one and true living God, who sits high and looks low and is interested in every aspect of our lives. We give you thanks for always loving us even when we are not what we ought to be and have fallen short.

Your steadfast love surrounds us and overshadows our daily move. We thank you that you are the potter and we are the clay. Your Hand never leaves the clay. Even though we may not understand how you are working or even see how things may work out, you have always reminded us that that you will never leave us nor forsake us and nothing miss your watchful eye. We can always trust who you are because you are the same yesterday, today and forever. You are a great and awesome God. You are the same God who parted the Red Sea. The same God who rescued the Hebrew boys from the fiery furnace; the same God in 2020 and for the rest of eternity.

Lord we ask for your continued mercies upon us, that you cleanse us from all unrighteousness and forgive us of all of our sins.

Lord we ask for your intervention in our current situation concerning the Covid-19 Virus. World leaders as well our local government leaders including, the prime minister Andrew Holness, health minister Christopher Tufton and health workers, finance minister Nigel Clarke, minister of national security Horace Chang and security workers, leader of the opposition Peter Phillips, as well as other persons behind the scenes that are part of the team need solutions. Lord we ask that you give them insight in addressing their daily tasks. Lord we ask that you will give them humble hearts so that they will surrender themselves to your leadership, your will and your way. Help us not only to pull through this crisis but that we will have a government that is transformed by the power of Almighty God.

Remember who are among us; our doctors; Asana Wilks, Rohan Wilks, Kahlete Falloon, Tina Kong, Vernon Jones, Leighton Logan and others; as well our dentists Jhenell Black, Dana Jones, Eleanor Reynolds; and  pharmacists Sandra Bucknor-Jones, Viveen Watson. Lord be their right and left hand and give them special covering in this time. Let them not be overwhelmed by patients but give them a spirit of peace to do their work diligently.

Lord remember our merchandisers and manufacturers Spacie Shepherd and others, supermarket workers, restaurant workers, manufacturer workers, taxi drivers; bankers, custom brokers– Loy Evans, Jackie Mair, Janet Williamson and others. I pray that you will guide their going out and in and be a shield of safety around them.

Lord also remember our judges – Paula Blake Powell, Grace Henry McKenzie; and our Lawyers – Ilene Felix, Nicole Roberts, Donahue Martin Jnr and others although court may not be in session the usual way. Lord I pray that truth and justice continues to prevail. Lord remember our aviation workers: Alecia English and others across the world that you will continue to cover them and provide for them and their families.

Lord also remember the business owners and ventures – Ewan and Maxine Oliver, Lanna and Desmond Bennett, Warrick Bogle, Carol and Leroy Blake, Marcia Leair, Robert and Beveline Smith, Paulette Dixon, Kemorine and Karl Henry, Ava Comrie, Catherine Barckley and husband, Cornel Richards and family, Everton Lewis, Pauline and Mark Garvey, Maxine and Benedict Ranger, Melva Knight, Nicole Fender, Sharon Baldie, Raymond Daley and others. Father, people depend on them to provide jobs and they themselves have to provide for their families but Lord remind them that your store house is never empty and with you as their source their coffers will not run dry.

Lord show up in a real way for your people that it will be a witness to us and the rest of the world that you have not forgotten us. Cover every bill of every kind, ailing bodies and hearts.

Lord there is so much panic, distress, despair, fear and brokenness for those who have lost loved ones due to this virus which is running rampant. However, you have reminded us in your word that you have not given us a spirit of fear but a spirit of power, love and a sound mind. We draw on your word and stand with faith and hope in the face of what seems like a formidable giant called Covid-19 Virus.

You are a God for all seasons and for all times. We can rest assured that you are not fazed by the chaos but it is for us to remain steadfast with our eyes fixed on you.  We do battle with our spiritual weapons standing firm on your word, living in peace that only you can give amidst all that is happening. Re-affirm in us. Encourage, and empower us by your spirit to understand that in all things we are called to be the salt and light of the world.

Lord help us as a nation, in this time in the plethora of information, to avoid information overload and misinformation and just sheer nonsense, and that good sense will prevail. Help us to obey our leaders as far as is possible and not be selfish so as to protect ourselves and others. Pour out your wisdom on us and give us receptive hearts and minds to respond to you.

Let us in this time truly exemplify what it is to be our brother’s keeper. Use us to be your hands and feet that we may be practical people who not only will pray but also lend a helping hand, and to be kind and sharing towards each other. Let us use this time as an opportunity, as your spirit leads, to share the gospel with others. Give us boldness and the right words to say so that souls may be won for your kingdom.

Lord we thank you once again because we know we do not walk alone. We say thank you for all that you are doing in us and through us as you continue to cover and provide for your people.

We ask these only in Jesus’s name,

Amen.
